Day 176
One year later...
Today’s Big Story…
President Trump sat down with his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, for an exclusive interview to reflect on the one-year anniversary of the attempted assassination at the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally.
Trump described the day as "unforgettable," recalling how he was "whacked" by a bullet that grazed his ear, crediting a Secret Service sniper for killing the gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, in under five seconds. He expressed satisfaction with the findings from the Department of Justice and Secret Service, stating, "They briefed me and I'm satisfied with it," despite acknowledging "mistakes were made" that day.
Trump also shared a deeper belief that his survival was divinely ordained, stating he was "spared by God for the purpose of restoring the nation to greatness." Trump emphasized his conviction to his daughter-in-law that his purpose as president is to save the country.
One year later, however, certain questions remain unanswered. To this day, Crooks' overall motivations remain unclear despite extensive investigation. The 20-year-old’s mental health struggles and lack of a clear ideological motive continue to puzzle authorities, with no manifesto or definitive evidence uncovered or released as of today. Additionally, there has been a lack of answers on the security lapses at the event, and questions about Crooks being a lone actor in the assassination attempt, or if he was operating on behalf of a nefarious entity, domestic or foreign. Crooks mysteriously does not have any social media history or public phone records.
Another Big Story…
President Trump joined FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the Club World Cup award ceremony after Chelsea’s 3-0 win over PSG at MetLife Stadium.
He and First Lady Melania received mixed cheers and boos as they waved to the crowd. Trump congratulated players and coaches after the match, shaking hands and patting some on the back as they passed on stage. He presented PSG’s Désiré Doué with the Young Player award, Chelsea’s Robert Sánchez with the Golden Glove, and Cole Palmer with the Golden Ball for MVP. He also awarded medals to the referees.
Afterward, Trump stood with the Chelsea team as they accepted the trophy and celebrated.

The Administration…
Over the weekend, President Trump issued a sharp rebuke on Truth Social amid reports of internal tensions, following claims that Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino threatened to resign over Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of Jeffrey Epstein-related inquiries.
AG Bondi has fired at least 20 prosecutors and staff linked to former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Trump investigations. Most remaining prosecutors tied to the probes had already been removed by department leadership.
Bondi also announced that the DOJ has dropped charges against Utah plastic surgeon Dr. Kirk Moore, who was indicted in 2023 for allegedly issuing fake COVID vaccine cards and destroying government-supplied vaccines.
President Trump said the U.S. will send Patriot missiles to Ukraine, calling Russia’s Vladimir Putin a leader who “talks nice, and then he bombs everybody in the evening.” The comments come ahead of NATO chief Mark Rutte’s visit to Washington, following Trump’s announcement of a new NATO deal to supply Ukraine with U.S. arms via allied nations.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said she's in talks with five GOP-led states to build large immigrant detention centers modeled after Florida’s Alligator Alcatraz.
The Trump administration is launching a new visa program to expedite the entry of foreign laborers amid concerns from farmers and hotel owners over deportation raids. The Labor Department emphasized the program is “not amnesty” for illegal aliens.
President Trump posted that he is giving “serious consideration” to revoking Rosie O’Donnell’s citizenship.
President Trump won the member‑member championship at his Bedminster golf club over the weekend, calling it a “great honor.”
On the anniversary of his near-assassination, President Trump shared a video highlighting key moments from his life and career, culminating in the Butler rally where he was shot in the ear. It prompted more questions about the event from social media users. Watch here…
Vice President…
JD Vance was targeted by protesters and California Gov. Gavin Newsom during a weekend visit to Disneyland with his family. Sharing a video of Vance at the park, Newsom posted on X, “Hope you enjoy your family time, JD Vance. The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t.” 100 to 150 protesters gathered outside the park on Friday and Saturday after Vance’s presence was reported.
Vance wrote cooly back to Newsom: “Had a great time, thanks.”
Congress…
THE HOUSE
•Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is facing backlash over a post about President Trump on X, with critics warning it could lead to a major lawsuit. She wrote: “Wow who would have thought that electing a rapist would have complicated the release of the Epstein Files?”
•Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) is urging House Republicans to hold a vote demanding the Trump administration release the “FULL Epstein files.”
•Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) criticized Trump’s immigration crackdown during a Nashville town hall, claiming ICE raids are shocking the world. She also called for universal healthcare, cutting military spending, and banning ICE agents from wearing masks during enforcement.
THE SENATE
•The GOP’s rescissions bill to cut billions in federal spending heads to the Senate this week, despite Republican concerns over cuts to public broadcasting and foreign aid. Lawmakers face a Friday deadline to send it to President Trump.
•Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said that President Trump’s push to cut billions in funding for NPR and PBS will lead to a “very close” vote in the Senate.
•Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) said he has confidence in Attorney General Pam Bondi despite reports that she is feuding with FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino over her handling of the case related to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The Resistance…
Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle denied lying to Congress or rejecting Trump campaign security requests before the 2024 assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. A Senate report found the Secret Service had ignored or denied at least 10 resource requests and accused Cheatle of giving false testimony.
An Iranian movement has reportedly raised over $40 million to fund the assassination of President Trump, following two fatwas by senior clerics declaring him an “enemy of Allah” and urging resistance cells in the West to carry out the order.
In a New York Times interview, former President Joe Biden defended using an autopen to sign over 1,500 pardons in his final weeks, calling it a practical necessity. The White House had described the move as the largest single-day act of clemency by a U.S. president.
Peruvian presidential hopeful and China ally Rafael Lopez Aliaga traveled to California late last month for a ceremony marking the U.S. donation of CalTrain locomotives to Lima. The trains were provided under the Biden administration.
French wine and cheese producers claim that President Trump’s proposed 30% tariffs on European imports would severely harm the country’s agriculture sector. Jean-Francois Loiseau, head of ANIA, called the tariffs “disastrous” for France’s food industry.
A federal judge in Los Angeles issued a temporary restraining order against ICE, ruling the agency likely violated constitutional rights in its California enforcement practices. Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong barred ICE from making detentive stops in the Central District without “reasonable suspicion” and prohibited relying on factors like race, language, location, or occupation.
