Today’s Big Story…

President Trump slammed Elon Musk’s new “America Party,” calling him a “train wreck” in a Truth Social post over the weekend.

Trump slammed Musk’s recent political moves, calling him “completely off the rails” and warning that third parties bring “DISRUPTION & CHAOS” without success in U.S. history. Trump expressed frustration over Musk’s support for ending the Electric Vehicle mandate—a policy Trump claims he highlighted in every campaign speech. He also criticized Musk for recommending a “blue blooded Democrat” to lead NASA, citing a conflict of interest given Musk’s business ties to the agency. Trump questioned whether Musk had ever supported Republican causes before their alliance.

The criticism followed Musk’s announcement, which came after 65.4% of 1.25 million poll respondents backed a third-party option. The Trump–Musk feud marks a major political shakeup with potential to disrupt the Republican Party and U.S. politics. Their split began in May after Musk left the federal government following a stint leading DOGE. Tensions escalated when Musk opposed Trump’s narrowly passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act and began pushing for a new party.

While Musk has toned down some attacks, he continues to advocate for a third-party alternative. Though the U.S. is largely a two-party system, presidential candidates can appear on all 50 state ballots if they meet varying signature requirements—an effort that would require a massive political operation. The “America Party” rollout drew mixed reactions: Mark Cuban and Anthony Scaramucci voiced support, while Trump allies Roger Stone and Steve Bannon dismissed it as a spoiler effort and raised concerns about Musk’s status as a foreign-born citizen.

Another Big Story…

President Trump said he’ll begin negotiations with China this week over a potential TikTok deal, which will “probably” require Chinese approval.

We pretty much have a deal. I think we are gonna start Monday or Tuesday asking, talking to China, perhaps President Xi [Jinping] or one of his representatives, but we pretty much have a deal,” said Trump.

In mid-June, President Trump signed an executive order giving TikTok 90 more days—until September 17—to divest from its China-based parent company, ByteDance. The move followed growing national security concerns over the app’s ties to China and aimed to allow more time for a potential sale or restructuring.

The Administration…

  1. President Trump announced a 10% tariff on countries supporting BRICS' “anti-American policies,” declaring there would be “no exceptions.” The move came as BRICS nations met in Rio de Janeiro for a summit.

  2. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that President Trump plans to reinstate paused tariffs if countries don’t take action by August 1.

  3. President Trump’s DOJ and FBI found no evidence that Jeffrey Epstein was murdered, kept a “client list,” or blackmailed powerful figures, according to a released memo. The administration is releasing video footage—both raw and enhanced—showing no one entered Epstein’s cell area the night he died, supporting the official ruling of suicide.

  4. President Trump said he didn’t know the term “shylock” was considered antisemitic after using it in a speech to describe predatory lenders. He claimed he “never heard it that way,” despite the word’s origin, where it refers to a Jewish moneylender.

  5. Before flying to Washington to meet with President Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the moment a historic turning point, saying Israel is ready to “expand the circle of peace” beyond expectations. He described the trip as both strategic and symbolic, meant to build on recent military success and boost diplomatic momentum.

  6. Ukrainian President Zelensky called his recent talk with President Trump the “best” and “most productive” they’ve had.

  7. President Trump said he would support renaming the Washington Commanders back to the Redskins but added he might accept the current name if the team starts winning.

  8. The President and First Lady offered prayers and condolences on social media after flash floods struck Kerr County, Texas, leaving multiple people dead.

  9. President Trump said he plans to visit Texas, likely on Friday, to inspect flood damage and meet with local officials

Vice President…

JD Vance spent Fourth of July weekend in San Diego for several GOP events and to receive the Claremont Institute’s 2025 Statesmanship Award. Locals saw his motorcade as he attended the $2,500-per-seat dinner Saturday, emceed by right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

Congress…

THE HOUSE

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced that she plans to introduce a bill banning the use of chemicals in the air for weather modification.

Democratic lawmakers are pushing to ban face coverings for ICE agents amid Trump’s immigration crackdown. Reps. Dan Goldman and Adriano Espaillat introduced the “No Secret Police Act,” which would prohibit DHS agents from wearing homemade, non-tactical masks during immigration enforcement.

Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) said both President Trump and NYC mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani tapped into the same core issue—affordability—to fuel their underdog victories. Suozzi claimed they have a shared focus despite their political differences.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) appeared on The Joy Reid Show, where she and Reid claimed Trump could deport anyone—including U.S. citizens—and even suggested Melania Trump could be deported under new immigration rules.

THE SENATE

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) dismissed claims that President Trump is being too soft on Putin, amid White House efforts to negotiate a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

Democrat Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, Elizabeth Warren, and Chris Coons announced an investigation into the Trump administration’s five-month delay in imposing new Russia sanctions, calling it a failure to act against aggression in Ukraine.

Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) defended the Medicaid work requirement in the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” The provision requires able-bodied, childless adults ages 18 to 64 to work 80 hours a month—or participate in school, community service, or job programs—to qualify for benefits.

The Resistance…

  1. Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok faced backlash after blaming President Trump for deaths in the Texas floods over Independence Day weekend.

  2. Rosie O’Donnell, now living in Ireland, also blamed President Trump for the devastating Texas flash floods, which saw the Guadalupe River rise 26 feet in 45 minutes after heavy rainfall.

  3. The Trump administration is accusing the Smithsonian Institution of using federal funds to promote “divisive political narratives” instead of celebrating America’s greatness. White House official Lindsey Halligan criticized the National Museum of American History’s Entertainment Nation exhibit, which has faced backlash for its politically charged portrayal of pop culture.

  4. The University of Pennsylvania, President Trump’s alma mater, became the first school to sign an agreement with his administration to ban transgender athletes from women’s sports. The move follows a federal investigation that found Penn violated Title IX by allowing Lia Thomas to compete on the women’s swim team, raising questions about whether other schools will follow suit.

  5. Justice Samuel Alito warned of a “significant loophole” in the Supreme Court’s ruling against universal injunctions, noting that class actions and state-led suits could still produce injunctions with similar nationwide impact—a concern now looming over cases involving President Trump.

  6. Gov. Andy Beshear told CNN he is “weighing” a presidential run in 2028, saying he’ll decide after focusing on his term as Kentucky governor and leading the Democratic Governors Association next year

  7. Former Vice President Kamala Harris faced backlash for a somber Fourth of July message on X, where she wrote, “Things are hard right now. They are probably going to get worse before they get better.” Critics also noted her post featured a photo from last year’s celebration that cropped out Joe Biden.

  8. Leftist social media users slammed NFL star Jason Kelce for sharing a patriotic Fourth of July post on Instagram, praising the holiday as a time for unity and celebrating America.

  9. Director James Gunn said the upcoming Superman film will be “about politics,” calling the hero an immigrant in a time of hatred and a new symbol of new America. In The Sunday Times, Gunn and dismissed critics who might take offense, saying, “Screw them.”

  10. Former AOC supporter Lucy Biggers is warning young NYC voters after socialist Zohran Mamdani’s primary win. In a video on X, the 35-year-old media professional stated that while she once supported promises like free college and housing, she has since realized that such policies drive out wealth and leave remaining residents with higher costs.

  11. A recent Gallup survey shows only about one-third of Democrats are very or extremely proud to be American, a historic low. Gen Z is the least proud generation, and overall national pride has dropped to a record low of 58%.

Your Opinions & Questions…

Below are a few comments and responses from DML’s Sunday op-ed about Elon Musk starting a third political party called The America Party:

Jake K: You got a great platform, but as for Elon I even wrote him that he’s wrong and will be just as corrupt as the others not long after his first win. Look at the one-eyed Republican seal, started out fighting them the first year, then got paid and just as corrupt as the rest!

Ginjo1536: “Just so he doesn’t make Trump’s life more difficult than it already is. We need for Trump to have his day in office…he and we have certainly fought hard enough for it. He’s fairly easy to work with as he remains open to a deal on almost every subject.

Goddess30: “I'm not sure how to feel about Musk starting a new party. Will have to wait and see. But I would really like confirmation as to who we owe all this debt to.”

Kblakkat21: “Elon Musk is scary. If he should succeed in a third party, you can bet Democrats will be the winner! Then every win we have worked so hard for would be gone! Democrats stick together like glue. Republicans don’t even support their own!

Sofiapc: “I think a third party would make us like Europe, where a conservative government can never win. All we would be doing with Musk's new party is cutting off our hand to spite our face.”
