AMERICA’S GOLDEN AGE

Looking very healthy and happy and wearing a purple tie, which is symbolic of being nonpartisan, Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 47th president on Monday. The extremely patriotic inauguration took place inside the beautiful U.S. Capitol Rotunda due to the extreme cold weather. It was a historic moment as Trump became the second president in history to serve non-consecutive terms.

In his inaugural speech — which many pundits say was his best speech ever — Trump held nothing back. He declared the beginning of America's "Golden Age," promising to restore the nation's greatness, sovereignty, and safety. He laid out a vision for the next four years, emphasizing an America First policy, including a return to manufacturing, the reclamation of national energy independence, and a crackdown on illegal immigration.

Trump vowed to end what he described as the "weaponization" of the justice system. He also pledged to make America a dominant force in space exploration, with plans to send astronauts to Mars. He announced plans for an executive order to classify drug cartels as terrorist groups, and he reemphasized his promise to rename the Gulf of Mexico into the ‘Gulf of America.’

Trump's address also touched on other big topics, such as his intention to officially recognize only two genders, and a national policy that would dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. He promised to tackle inflation, which he stated was rampant under the previous administration. Throughout his speech, Trump often sliced apart the Biden Administration as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris sat just a few feet away.

Trump then recalled the moment he was nearly assassinated at the campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last summer, stating: “Those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom and, indeed, to take my life… Just a few months ago in a Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear. But I felt then, and believe even more so now, that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to Make America Great Again.”

The speech concluded with a call for national unity, and he mentioned the massive support he’s received from all Americans, including African Americans, Hispanics, and Asians.

EXECUTIVE ORDERS (EOs): Following his inauguration, President Trump appeared at a jam-packed Capitol One Arena, where more than 20,000 supporters gathered for the presidential parade. On stage, a desk was set up where Trump signed several executive orders.

Later in the evening, Trump held a press conference inside the Oval Office. He fielded countless questions from the media as he signed many executive orders, many of which were tied to border security. Below are just a small sampling of the EOs signed on his first day:

  1. Revocation of 80 Biden-era Executive Actions.

  2. Regulatory Freeze: Trump prevented bureaucrats from issuing new regulations until his administration has full control over the government.

  3. Federal Hiring Freeze: Trump put a freeze on all federal hiring, with exceptions for the military and certain other categories, until full control of the government is established.

  4. Withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord.

  5. Pardons for 1,500 January 6 Defendants.

  6. In-person Work Requirement for Federal Employees.

  7. End DEI Programs Within the Federal Government.

  8. Designation of Drug Cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

  9. Withdrawing the U.S. from the World Health Organization.

  10. EO to keep China’s TikTok app open temporarily (75 days) so that it can find a potential buyer.

  11. Signed multiple orders to protect the U.S.-Mexico border, suspending refugee resettlement and ending birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants.

  12. EO to restore deportation criteria to pursue everyone in the country illegally, not just those with serious criminal records, those deemed national security or public safety threats, and those who recently crossed the border.

  13. EO to ensure the American flag is flown at full staff during the inauguration of a president.

For Trump’s first 24 hours as president, he signed 42 executive orders, addressed 115 personnel actions, enacted more than 200 executive actions, participated in a 60-minute press Q&A, and made three historic speeches.

The Sad Ceremony: While Trump’s events were jovial and celebratory, there was a more dour ceremony for Joe Biden following the inauguration. Biden gave a farewell speech at Joint Base Andrews and claimed, “We’re leaving office. But we’re not leaving the fight.” Following his goodbye to the public, the Biden family left for Santa Ynez in Santa Barbara County, California for some “personal time.”

Intel Cleanup: President Trump, on his first day back in office, suspended the security clearances of the 51 intelligence officials who had claimed that reporting linked to Hunter Biden's laptop bore "the classic earmarks" of Russian disinformation before the 2020 election. He revoked the clearances of these officials, dubbed the "Spies Who Lie," as part of the numerous executive orders already signed.

Vivek is Out: The shock of the day was the announcement that Vivek Ramaswamy will not serve as a member of the DOGE team with Elon Musk. Apparently, Vivek will be running for governor in the state of Ohio in 2026. The rumors online suggest Vivek was politely shown the door as his relationship with Musk and the Trump team was questioned over the past month. Trump also announced that Elon Musk will NOT have an office in the West Wing.

Tariffs Start Feb 1: Trump told reporters Monday that 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada could start as soon as Feb 1.

”47”: The president found a letter from Joe Biden on his desk during the Q&A with the press. Marked “47” on the sealed envelope, Trump did not open the letter in front of the press.

Trump and Melania Crypto: Trump shocked the $3.5 trillion cryptocurrency industry by launching his own token, $TRUMP coin, which skyrocketed from a few cents to $33.87 within 24 hours, a gain of over 18,000%. Although the price settled around $26 with a market cap exceeding $5 billion, $TRUMP remains among the top 30 cryptocurrencies in the world. Following this, First Lady Melania Trump debuted her own token, $MELANIA, which quickly surged from pennies to over $10 by the weekend's close.

Big Balls: Trump and Vance families opened the Commander-in-Chief celebration before trading partners with military heroes at the Washington Convention Center. This was before their next two stops at the Liberty and Starlight balls as inauguration night festivities continued across DC.

MEDIA MANIA

Trump Online: The WhiteHouse.gov website and the @POTUS and @WhiteHouse X accounts updated to reflect the Trump administration Monday, effectively eliminating Joe Biden’s mark and giving the government social media handles back to Trump.

TIME Cover: Following years of unflattering cover photos and art, TIME finally produced one of Trump worthy of hanging up in an office: the 47th president returning to the Oval Office’s desk while pushing Biden’s stuff out of the way. See it here.

CNN Cries Nazi: CNN claimed Elon Musk made a Nazi salute during Trump’s event at Capitol One Arena but omitted his comment expressing support for the crowd by saying his heart goes out to them. Social media users even noted the gesture resembled more of a Roman Empire call sign, which Musk admires, rather than a Nazi salute. It is yet another example of mainstream media misinformation.

Former President: Barack Obama spent inauguration weekend in D.C. without Michelle, fueling divorce rumors:

J.D. Vance

The New VP: Goodbye Kamala, Hello Vance! The former Ohio senator took the oath of office on a Bible that once belonged to his great-grandmother. Vance is now the third-youngest vice president in the history of the United States at 40 years and 141 days old.

CONGRESS & SCOTUS

Sloppy John: This should come as no surprise, but Sen. John Fetterman attended the inaugural events wearing a sweatshirt and basketball shorts. Rumors are circulating that the controversial Democrat may change parties to become a Republican.

Marco Rubio is Confirmed: The Florida senator was confirmed by the Senate as the new Sec. of State, giving Trump the first member of his cabinet.

Waltz Resigns: With Trump now president, Republican Rep. Mike Waltz of Florida is slated to serve as the national security adviser, and so he has officially resigned from Congress, leaving the GOP with another slim majority.

Crazy Nancy: Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) said Monday that Trump’s EO to pardon the J6 prisoners was “shameful.”

The Roberts Rush: Social media had buzzed over an awkward moment during President Trump’s swearing-in ceremony when he unintentionally skipped placing his left hand on the two Bibles as planned. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts began the oath prematurely, rushing the ceremony before Trump’s family could position themselves. First Lady Melania Trump and their children scrambled to step forward with the Bibles, but Trump, focused on raising his right hand and repeating the oath, missed the intended gesture. Many believe Roberts moved too hastily with the historic formal process, unlike Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s swearing-in of VP Vance, which was patiently given.
