Day 95
A backtrack on tax plan and peace deal
Today’s Big Story…
President Trump spoke out in opposition to raising taxes on U.S. millionaires, and corporations, warning it would drive them out of the country. This comes following speculation that tax hikes were being considered by some of Trump’s economic advisors, which split the GOP. Proposals under discussion include raising the top rate from 37% to around 39.6% for incomes over $626,350.
Reportedly, VP JD Vance and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, support raising taxes on those earning over $1 million. However, hardline conservatives oppose the move, calling it a betrayal of GOP values. Speaker Mike Johnson also rejected the idea, favoring spending cuts over tax hikes.
Another Big Story…
Ukrainian President Zelensky rejected a Trump-backed peace plan to freeze the ongoing conflict with Russia and recognize Crimea as Russian territory.
The proposed peace deal would have Russia return some claimed territories to Ukraine, and Putin was reportedly open to it. But Zelensky firmly rejected giving up any land. The deal also included barring Ukraine from joining NATO, while allowing EU membership.
Meanwhile, Russian forces launched a major missile and drone attack on Kyiv early Thursday, killing at least nine people in the city, and injuring more than 60, the Ukrainian authorities said, in the deadliest strike on the Ukrainian capital since last summer.
My Thoughts…
If raising taxes is supported by VP Vance, then he stands to lose in 2028. Taxing job creators at higher rates would be an absolute nightmare scenario for the economy, jobs, and GDP, and it would be a death sentence for business owners of all sizes. My podcast from yesterday goes into great detail about why this proposal would be a total disaster (listen here).
I do not think Zelenskyy will be around much longer — don’t be shocked to hear he was lost in an airstrike soon.

Your Opinions & Questions…
Veda: “It seems a judge or the Supreme Court denies Trump everything that he orders.”
DML: Thomas Jefferson once wrote: “Nothing in the Constitution has given them [the federal judges] a right to decide for the Executive, more than to the Executive to decide for them. . . . The opinion which gives to the judges the right to decide what laws are constitutional and what not, not only for themselves, in their own sphere of action, but for the Legislature and Executive also in their spheres, would make the Judiciary a despotic branch.”
Essentially, Jefferson’s writing translates: if judges are allowed to decide what laws are constitutional not just for themselves, but also for Congress (Legislature) and the President, then the courts would become too powerful, like a dictatorship. If judges can overrule everyone and everything, the whole system becomes unbalanced and unfair.
