Today’s Big Story…

In a historic announcement, President Trump revealed that he’s raising tariffs on China to 125% effective immediately, citing their “lack of respect” for global markets.

While China refused to negotiate, other countries seeking deals with Trump have received breaks, with Trump unveiling a 90-day pause on heightened reciprocal tariffs by lowering them to 10%. Markets rebounded and surged following the announcement.

This all comes after China announced they would raise reciprocal tariffs on U.S. goods to 84% following Trump’s sweeping Liberation Day tariffs, where Trump had first hit China with tariffs levels that went from 10% to 34%, then reaching to 104%, before finally landing on the settled 125%. Currently, Trump awaits China’s response to come to the negotiating table, as many analysts speculate the communist nation’s economy is about to hit a brick wall.

Another Big Story…

According to newly released DHS data, more than 5,000 illegal aliens have chosen to self-deport in the past month using the CBP One app.

The trend follows a Trump administration push encouraging voluntary departures, including a recent flyer warning of new fines for those who stay in the U.S. despite deportation orders. The flyer warns that illegal aliens with final removal orders could face fines of $998 per day if they remain in the U.S., while those who pledged to self-deport but didn’t could be fined $1,000 to $5,000.

Additionally, the Trump administration has reinstated the VOICE office, which supports Americans affected by crimes committed by illegal aliens. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the move, reversing the Biden-era shutdown of the office and shifting focus back to U.S. victims.

My Thoughts…

Trump‘s play is very smart. He’s pinning China into a corner and reestablishing the United States as the world leader in economics and military strength. In tandem, he is giving the world a chance to come to the table. If countries fail to do so, they will be the next China. It is a negotiation skill that takes decades to form. It’s what made Trump a billionaire. It’s how he won the presidency and took politicians who had spent their life trying to become president and made them into a zero.

Also, it’s excellent the VOICE office has opened back up to help American victims impacted by illegal alien crimes. Anyone keeping a laundry list of all the asinine decisions of the Biden administration? Glad to see they’re all being corrected week after week.

The Administration…

  • President Trump criticized Republican lawmakers for pushing to limit his tariff powers, calling them “rebels.”

  • Trump hosted Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer at the Oval Office to discuss keeping the Selfridge Air Base open.

  • Acting IRS chief Melanie Krause will resign under the Trump administration’s deferred resignation program, following a deal requiring the agency to share tax data on illegal aliens. She is the third person to lead the IRS this year.

  • President Trump ordered the Justice Department to investigate former DHS official Miles Taylor, who admitted to anonymously working against Trump’s agenda in a 2018 New York Times op-ed titled, “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration.”

  • The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has cleared the way for the Trump administration to fire thousands of probationary federal workers, overturning a lower court order that protected employees in D.C. and 19 states challenging Trump's directive.

  • Additionally, Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily blocked the reinstatement of two fired federal board members, marking a short-term legal win for President Trump amid ongoing battles over his executive authority.

  • The White House is moving to shut down the U.S. Global Change Research Program, a decades-old initiative behind climate policy. Created in 1990, the program has received billions in federal funding for climate research.

  • President Trump signed an executive order to reverse regulations on water pressure, explicitly targeting the restrictions on showerheads that were implemented during the Obama and Biden administrations.

Vice President…

JD Vance criticized Sen. Mitch McConnell for voting against Elbridge Colby’s confirmation as undersecretary of defense, calling it “one of the great acts of political pettiness.” Colby was confirmed 54-45, with McConnell the only Republican opposed and three Democrats supporting.

Congress…

House GOP leaders scrapped Wednesday’s vote on the Senate’s plan to advance parts of Trump’s agenda due to hard-line conservative opposition. Speaker Mike Johnson said the vote will "probably" happen today instead.

The House passed the No Rogue Rulings Act, curbing federal district judges' ability to issue nationwide injunctions against Trump administration policies. Led by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), the bill passed 219–213 with all but one Republican in favor and no Democratic support.

The Senate confirmed former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee as U.S. Ambassador to Israel on in a 53-46 vote. Only one Democrat, Sen. John Fetterman (Pa.), joined Republicans in support.

Elon Musk, leading DOGE to root out federal waste and fraud, pushed back against Sen. Chuck Schumer’s attacks, hinting at Schumer’s own corruption. Schumer has accused Musk of self-interest and claimed, without evidence, that Trump and Musk aim to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Democratic strategist George Hornedo has launched a primary challenge against Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) in Indiana’s 7th District. Carson, a nine-term incumbent, has held the seat since 2008 and won reelection in 2024 by 40 points.

NASA administrator nominee Jared Isaacman vowed at his Senate hearing that the U.S. will lead the space race with China, pledging to pursue moon and Mars missions simultaneously without increasing the agency’s budget. He affirmed the plan’s feasibility when questioned by Sen. Ted Cruz.
