Day 73
Republicans love to be losers
Today’s Big Story…
A procedural vote in the House has failed after nine Republicans joined Democrats to oppose it, blocking a legislative package that included the No Rogue Rulings Act and the SAVE Act.
The rule was defeated 206-222 due to a provision that would have prevented new parents in Congress from voting remotely, effectively halting Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s push for proxy voting for members with newborns. It marks Speaker Mike Johnson’s first rule failure in the 119th Congress—a tactic often used by hardline conservatives to challenge leadership-backed bills.
Rep. Luna was leading a bipartisan effort to allow new parents in Congress to vote remotely for 12 weeks. She and the eight other Republicans opposed the unrelated legislation to pressure leadership on the issue, deepening GOP divisions amid their slim majority. In response, Johnson canceled all House votes for the rest of the week.
A handful of Republicans just joined every House Democrat to take down a rule.
This means we can’t take any further action on President Trump’s agenda this week:
No SAVE Act
No vote to address rogue judges attacking Trump
No votes to repeal Biden regulations— Speaker Mike Johnson (@SpeakerJohnson)

Another Big Story…
A federal judge has blocked President Trump from ending Temporary Protection Status (TPS) amnesty for 350,000 Venezuelans, including some linked to the Tren de Aragua gang.
In his ruling, Judge Edward Chen claimed their “economic contributions” outweighed established immigration law and policy. According to Newsweek, both the judge and lawyers backing the illegal aliens invoked the "race card.” The work permits and protection statuses were initially set to be terminated next week, April 7.
The California-born judge was appointed by Barack Obama.
ALSO: Liberal-leaning Judge Susan Crawford won Wisconsin’s costly, high-profile Supreme Court race, preserving the progressive majority. She defeated conservative Judge Brad Schimel, a Trump-endorsed former attorney general. The court is expected to rule on key issues like redistricting, voting rights, labor laws, and abortion.
My Thoughts…
It is fundamentally ridiculous that President Trump’s agenda is yet again delayed because this small sect of Republicans decided to focus on “proxy voting.” Proxy voting is a slippery slope.
As for the TPS injunction, it's just another day of the tyranny of the judiciary disrupting any accomplishments being done by the Trump administration.
And as for the Wisconsin outcome, we will likely see the House revert back to a Democrat majority for the 2026 midterms. It’s massively unfortunate, but the Republicans continue to prove they love to lose.

The Administration…
Today is Liberation Day, when President Trump’s massive tariffs begin.
President Trump praised Wisconsin voters for approving a measure to enshrine the state’s photo ID voting law in the constitution. While photo ID was already required, the new amendment gives it stronger legal protection.
Elon Musk said a suspected scammer who sold Social Security numbers and ID info to help others steal from Social Security is facing imminent arrest. The scheme reportedly targeted 400,000 Americans.
Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer announced that over $1 billion in unused COVID-era funds will be returned to taxpayers, aligning with the Trump administration’s push to cut government waste. The department will return $1.4 billion and is working to recover an additional $2.9 billion.
First Lady Melania Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio hosted the annual International Women of Courage Awards at the State Department. Melania honored women from around the world for their strength and bravery.
Former quarterback Tim Tebow and his wife, Demi-Leigh, visited Trump and Sen. Marco Rubio in the Oval Office.
Israel announced it will lift all tariffs on U.S. products, following orders from Prime Minister Netanyahu and other leaders. Netanyahu said the move is meant to boost competition, diversify the economy, and lower the cost of living.
Vice President…
JD Vance is planning a trip to Italy later this month—his third mission to Europe amid ongoing tensions sparked by the Trump administration’s criticism of the continent.
Congress…
As a result of the outcome of the failed House vote, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna announced she is resigning from the House Freedom Caucus. The move marks an escalation in her clash with GOP leadership over her push to allow proxy voting.
Republicans scored two key victories in Florida's special elections, holding both congressional seats. Jimmy Patronis won Florida’s 1st District, defeating Democrat Gay Valimont 57% to 42%. In the 6th District, Randy Fine beat Democrat Josh Weil with 56% of the vote.
Sen. Cory Booker set a record with a 25-hour Senate floor speech filled with dramatic rhetoric that amounted to little substance. During the marathon speech, he slammed Trump, Elon Musk, DOGE, Republicans, and even the former administration.
Additionally, Capitol Police arrested a staffer for Sen. Booker for carrying a gun into the upper chamber, just hours after he began his marathon Senate speech.
Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, criticized a Maine law allowing transgender athletes to compete in girls’ and women’s sports, calling it contrary to the "spirit and intent of Title IX."
The Resistance…
Reporter Jonathan Allen revealed that former President Obama pushed for an open primary after Biden dropped out, believing Kamala Harris couldn’t win.
According to bombshell posts by Catherine Herridge, Michael Shellenberger, and House Judiciary Republicans, the FBI imposed a gag order to suppress discussion about Hunter Biden’s laptop. The move reportedly came after an FBI analyst told Twitter (now X) the laptop was authentic—prompting the bureau to quickly silence him.
Federal Judge James Boasberg is under fire from Trump and his allies over his role in high-profile cases involving the former administration. Critics are scrutinizing Boasberg’s background, including his FISA Court appointment and past ties to Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
A federal judge has dismissed a class-action lawsuit against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo over nursing home deaths during the 2020 COVID-19 surge. Judge Katherine Polk Failla said the families’ claims, while tragic, didn’t meet the legal standard for a federal case.
A federal judge blocked the Trump administration from firing intelligence staff who worked on DEI programs. Judge Anthony Trenga issued an injunction requiring the CIA and ODNI to keep the employees on payroll as they appeal and seek reassignment.
China’s push to halt the sale of a company managing Panama Canal ports is validating Trump’s warnings about the canal’s strategic risks. Trump allies say Beijing’s influence over CK Hutchison, which runs two ports, could threaten U.S. military and trade access—posing a serious national security concern for the U.S. and its allies.

Jason12: “We always say “follow the money”! Do you think these millionaires in government will be prosecuted by for fraud? Another question is do you vet the advertisers do put on the newsletters?”
DML: If AG Bondi and the DOJ really step up to the plate, they should be prosecuted. But that will remain to be seen. I view every ad before agreeing to its placement on the newsletters. Today’s is no different. Puck News raised millions of dollars and reportedly gives equity to its reporters — I like that sort of model.
