Today’s Big Story…

President Donald Trump hosted NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office to address critical global security concerns. They discussed the Ukraine ceasefire deal, with Trump pushing for a swift resolution amid his envoy Steve Witkoff’s Moscow talks, while Rutte expressed cautious support.

However, reports have indicated Russia’s reluctance to halt the war, with Kremlin officials favoring continued conflict to secure territorial gains unless certain obligations are met, such as no guarantees of Ukraine’s admission into NATO or building up their military arsenal. Trump’s suggestion that Ukraine possibly abandon NATO membership in a peace deal stirred unease among European leaders. Russia also requests Ukraine have immediate elections to replace President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Trump and Rutte also tackled NATO’s future, with Rutte praising Trump’s influence on European defense spending increases, like Germany’s proposed half-trillion boost. Trump countered that the 2% GDP target remains insufficient, urging European allies to shoulder more financial burden given their proximity to Russia. Questions about America’s NATO commitment surfaced as Trump hinted at reevaluating U.S. contributions if allies don’t pay up. Additionally, some controversy arose when Trump floated annexing Greenland for security, an idea Rutte dodged as outside NATO’s purview.

Another Big Story…

A large group of anti-Israel protesters gathered at and stormed Trump Tower, demanding the release of former Columbia student and pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil.

At least 100 demonstrators from Jewish Voice for Peace, wearing red shirts reading “Jews Say Stop Arming Israel,” crowded the Trump Grill area. They waved signs with messages like “Fight Nazis, not students” and “Jews for Palestinian Freedom,” chanting, “Free Mahmoud, Free them all!”

Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar and acting ICE director, has been vocal about Khalil’s case. Homan called Khalil a "national security threat," citing his involvement in protests as evidence. He argued that free speech has "limitations," comparing it to yelling fire in a crowded theater or slander, and stated, “When you are on campuses—I hear ‘freedom of speech,’ ‘freedom of speech,’ ‘freedom of speech’—can you stand at a movie theater and yell fire? Can you slander? Free speech has limitations.” Homan also emphasized that being in the U.S. on a visa or as a resident alien is a “privilege” with rules, implying Khalil violated those by allegedly supporting Hamas.

My Thoughts…

Our next poll on True News will ask about sentiment regarding the USA’s involvement with NATO. I believe it’s long overdue for us to leave the league. We overpay for its defenses and funding to operate, and our European allies continue to prove they’re not carrying their weight when it comes to contributing and are crippling themselves with mass migration and the demonization of free speech movements amongst its citizens, such as the UK and Germany. NATO membership for Ukraine isn’t going to happen anytime soon or in the near future (or maybe ever); maybe it’s time the U.S. leadership analyzes if our commitment to NATO is worth it in the long run.

I’ve been rewatching The Apprentice now that it’s on streaming services, and the contestants remark repeatedly about the magnificence of Trump Tower. It’s shameful to see its magnificence desecrated by leftist America-hating radicals. They have nothing better to do; their ideology is to destroy, not build. Hopefully, security can keep them out next time.

The Administration…

  • ICE arrests under President Trump have already surpassed all of 2024, the agency reported, accusing the Biden administration of manipulating data. Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons claimed Biden officials misled the public by counting released migrants as arrests.

  • ICE transferred all remaining migrants from Guantanamo Bay to the U.S. before their deportations. Since Trump took office, around 300 migrants were detained there. Most had already been deported to Venezuela, while the final 40 were moved to an ICE facility in Louisiana.

  • Trump is set to invoke wartime powers to fast-track the deportation of criminal illegal aliens linked to Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang. Using the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, many are expected to be sent to Guantanamo Bay.

  • Federal authorities have launched a criminal probe into NYC’s migrant hotels, issuing subpoenas for shelter records. The Roosevelt Hotel and Hotel Chandler were among those targeted, with the Southern District of New York demanding testimony and a list of illegals housed there.

  • President Trump reaffirmed his proposal for Canada to join the U.S., calling it a potential “great state.” Speaking alongside NATO’s secretary-general, he refused to back down on April 2 tariffs, insisting the U.S. has been “ripped off” and doesn’t need Canada’s exports like cars, lumber, or energy.

  • President Trump met with Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer at the White House for what she called a “productive meeting.” They discussed job creation, tariffs, Great Lakes protection, and defense investments in Michigan.

  • Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Breitbart News that Trump’s administration is using an “all hands on deck” approach to reverse economic damage caused by Democrats like former President Biden.

  • HUD Secretary Scott Turner rejected Asheville, North Carolina’s hurricane relief plan for including a DEI initiative, stating, “DEI is dead at HUD.”

  • OpenAI has responded to the Trump White House's request for input on an AI Action Plan to maintain technological leadership over China. The Office of Science and Technology Policy's Request for Information (RFI) is seeking feedback from tech, academia, and government via the Federal Register.

  • DOGE announced the termination of 239 wasteful contracts worth $1.7 billion, including a grant for transgender and queer urban farmers. The cuts are expected to save $400 million.

  • President Trump honored National K-9 Veterans Day 2025, praising working dogs for their bravery and devotion. He stated, “Dogs are man’s best friend and guardians,” and joined the First Lady in recognizing their service.

  • NASA and SpaceX rescheduled their Falcon 9 rescue mission to the ISS today after scrubbing Wednesday's launch due to ground equipment issues and yesterday's attempt due to weather.

  • Hedge funds are offloading stocks at their fastest pace since the COVID-19 crash, driven by fears of tariffs and recession. Fund managers have cut stock positions sharply since November 2024, focusing on shorting consumer discretionary stocks expected to be hit by tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China. Following Trump’s election victory, hedge funds reduced exposure by over 10% in three weeks, marking the biggest sell-off since early 2020.

Vice President…

JD Vance anticipates a rise in deportations as the Trump administration transitions from securing the southern border to actively removing illegal aliens. The White House is working to fulfill Trump’s campaign promise of mass deportations targeting those who entered the U.S. during Biden’s presidency.

"We've cut illegal border crossings by well over 95%, and frankly, I think those numbers are going to continue to come down," Vance told "The Ingraham Angle" in an interview from the White House. “You have immigration detention facilities that were underfunded. You have ICE, which does most of the actual deportations, that was radically underfunded, really sort of in some ways destroyed by the Biden administration. We're building that capacity up."

Congress…

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) now supports keeping the government open, warning a shutdown would harm Americans and strengthen Trump and Musk. Initially, he led Democrats in opposing the GOP-drafted spending bill but faced pushback from members like Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who refused to back a shutdown, forcing Schumer to reverse course.

House Democrats are outraged at Senate Democrats for backing a Republican spending bill, accusing Schumer and others of aiding Trump in cutting government programs.

Two of Trump’s key health nominees, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya for NIH director and Dr. Marty Makary for FDA chief, advanced in a party-line vote by the Senate HELP Committee, moving to full Senate consideration.

However, the White House withdrew Dave Weldon's nomination for CDC director. His Senate confirmation hearing was canceled by the HELP Committee yesterday, with no substitute nominee yet in place.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is targeting NGOs that received billions in taxpayer funds to help the Biden administration resettle migrant children, thousands of whom HHS lost contact with. Over 500,000 unaccompanied minors were taken into HHS custody and placed with adult sponsors, most unrelated to them.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) urged the FBI to investigate ActBlue over “suspicious donations,” citing Treasury reports from Biden’s administration detailing hundreds of flagged transactions.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) claimed that President Trump is on the verge of starting a civil war while speaking at a Congressional Black Caucus press conference.

Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.), a longtime progressive leader in Congress, passed away at 77. Serving over two decades, he chaired the Natural Resources Committee and co-chaired the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

The Resistance…

For the first time since 1850, U.S. population growth in 2022-23 was entirely due to immigration, as birth rates declined, the Migration Policy Institute reported. The immigrant population grew by 1.6 million, reaching a record 47.8 million in 2023—a 3.6% increase, the largest since 2010.

California faces scrutiny over soaring taxpayer costs for illegal immigrant healthcare. The state’s Medi-Cal spending jumped to $9.5 billion, exceeding the initial $6 billion estimate, with officials now requesting another $3.4 billion. Reports also reveal California and New York are using federal funds to support illegal immigration services.

Pete Buttigieg has ruled out runs for Michigan governor or U.S. Senate, fueling speculation about a 2028 White House bid. Now living in Traverse City, Michigan, he dismissed rumors of seeking Sen. Gary Peters' soon-to-be-vacant seat too.

A federal judge ordered agencies to rehire tens of thousands of probationary employees fired during Trump’s push to shrink the bureaucracy. Judge William Alsup called the mass firings a “sham” and ruled the terminations unlawful, mandating immediate reinstatement across multiple departments.

Democratic attorneys general from 20 states and D.C. sued to block Trump’s plan to dismantle the Department of Education and lay off nearly half its staff. Filed in federal court in Boston, the lawsuit argues the cuts would cripple legally mandated functions.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has blocked the Trump administration from accessing DMV data on criminal illegal aliens, creating major issues for law enforcement. Tom Homan warns ICE and CBP officers can’t verify identities during traffic stops, and when they obtain a warrant, New York alerts the suspect, undermining enforcement efforts.

A Wisconsin study challenges claims from Democrats, finding no significant impact of voter ID laws on turnout, according to the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty. Critics argue voter ID laws disenfranchise minorities, but the Wisconsin study found no impact on non-white turnout. Analyzing elections from 2004 to 2024, the study concluded voter ID did not suppress votes.

MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell revealed he was exhausted from covering President Trump and that he was taking a week off from hosting his show, "The Last Word," lamenting that it was only fifty days into Trump's second term.

In Non-Trump News…

Although we deliver you domestic and international news later this afternoon via the DML REPORT newsletter, here are a few worth mentioning now:

  1. A new malware scheme targeting Apple users disguises itself as a software update, tricking users into granting hackers access to sensitive data like bank details and passwords. Cybersecurity experts warn this social engineering attack exploits trust in routine updates, bypassing security protocols and posing risks to individuals and organizations. The malware’s sophistication is a growing threat, urging users to stay vigilant and verify updates before installing.

  2. Breanna Bortner, a 31-year-old entrepreneur from Minnesota, credits her cockapoo, Mochi, with detecting her breast cancer before diagnosis. Days before doctors confirmed a 1.5-inch lump, Mochi persistently sniffed and pawed at her right breast—Bortner took their actions as a critical warning. She was later diagnosed with stage 2B triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer.

  3. A McDonald’s in Franklin, Tennessee, went viral after a customer criticized its PlayPlace—now just two chairs and screens instead of a playground. X user @NancyAFrench shared a photo, calling it “heartbreaking,” sparking a social media debate as users reminisced about the chain’s classic playgrounds. Users also posted nostalgic pictures of McDonald's playgrounds from decades past.
