Today’s Big Story…

President Trump is set to use the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) to send weapons directly from U.S. military stockpiles to Ukraine, marking his first such move since returning to office.

The upcoming aid package, estimated at $300 million, is likely to include Patriot missile interceptors and GMLRS rocket artillery. Until now, U.S. military support for Ukraine under Trump had relied solely on Congressional authorizations made during the Biden administration. The PDA allows the president to expedite emergency military aid, and the U.S. still has $3.86 billion available under this authority. Although some weapons deliveries were temporarily paused earlier this month, they have since resumed.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Congress has approved nearly $175 billion in aid. The new weapons, already staged in Europe, could reach Ukrainian forces within days. This marks a notable shift in Trump’s Ukraine policy, signaling a firmer stance after previously mixed signals. The decision also comes as Russian drone and missile attacks on Kyiv intensify.

Another Big Story…

A federal judge in New Hampshire issued a preliminary injunction blocking President Trump’s order to end birthright citizenship, granting class status to all affected infants.

Judge Joseph LaPlante, an appointee by former President George W. Bush, said he would release a full ruling later in the day and removed parents from the case. He found the order could cause “irreparable harm” by violating the 14th Amendment and disrupting long-standing policy.

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 last month that nationwide relief requires a class action lawsuit, but did not address birthright citizenship directly. The Trump administration is expected to quickly appeal Judge LaPlante’s ruling.w

The Administration…

  1. President Trump will be visiting flood-ravaged Texas today, where at least 120 people died and 173 remain missing. He’ll meet with first responders, victims’ families, and local officials, with Gov. Greg Abbott expected to join.

  2. President Trump also announced a 35% tariff on all Canadian goods starting next month, sharing a letter he sent to Prime Minister Mark Carney.

  3. The Pentagon will buy $400 million in preferred stock from MP Materials, operator of the only U.S. rare earths mine, to support Trump’s push to cut reliance on China. Rare earths are vital for U.S. weapons like drones, subs, and F-35 jets.

  4. The Department of Education announced it will end taxpayer funding for career, technical, and adult education programs for illegal aliens, reversing Clinton-era rules and reaffirming they’re ineligible for grants and student loans.

  5. OMB Director Russ Vought accused Fed Chair Jerome Powell of “gross mismanagement” in a letter, criticizing the costly renovation of the Fed’s D.C. headquarters and saying Trump is “extremely troubled” by Powell’s leadership.

  6. President Trump warned that he may withhold support from any Republican who opposes his proposed $9 billion rescissions package, which targets cuts in foreign aid and public broadcasting.

  7. A federal appeals court has overturned pro-Trump influencer Douglass Mackey’s conviction for attempting to suppress 2016 Democratic votes, voiding his prison sentence and ordering a new acquittal judgment.

  8. President Trump and former President Obama shared a light moment chatting about golf at Jimmy Carter’s funeral in January, just days before Trump’s return to office, according to a new book on the 2024 election.

  9. President Trump personally funded two 88-foot American flags installed at the White House this summer, with each flagpole costing $50,000.

Vice President…

JD Vance will visit West Pittston, Pennsylvania, to promote President Trump’s agenda bill at a rally-style event at a manufacturing facility.

Congress…

THE HOUSE

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) mocked President Trump for asking Liberian President Joseph Boakai where he learned English. Boakai met with Trump during a White House event with leaders from Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and Gabon.

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) daughter, Isra Hirsi, announced that she’s unemployed and selling her used clothes on Depop just months after graduating from Barnard College.

Emboldened by Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral primary win, NYC democratic socialists are eyeing challenges to five House incumbents—possibly including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who’s daring them to try. His team has dubbed the challengers “Team Gentrification.”

THE SENATE

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) distanced himself from progressives, defending ICE in a post on X and calling efforts to abolish it “100% inappropriate and outrageous.”

Sen. Joni Ernst’s (R-IA) bipartisan bill to boost U.S. manufacturing advanced out of committee and is expected to pass unanimously. Co-sponsored by Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), Ernst says it will create jobs and enhance national security.

Sen. Rand Paul criticized Trump’s planned 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, calling it a risky protest over Jair Bolsonaro’s legal troubles that could damage the U.S. economy and Wall Street.

The Resistance…

  1. A Florida woman was arrested after showing up at Mar-a-Lago with a gun and claiming she had an urgent message for President Trump, who was in D.C. at the time. Caroline Shaw, 49, approached the south gate on foot after parking nearby before Secret Service detained her.

  2. The FDA has fully approved Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 6 months to 11 years at higher risk. Previously authorized for emergency use, the updated vaccine is expected to be available for the 2025–26 virus season.

  3. ICE agents in Omaha arrested MS-13 gang leader Melvin Alejandro Varela Perez. Wanted for five murders in El Salvador, he reportedly crossed the border under the Biden administration and was released into the U.S.

  4. Gov. Tim Walz spent $430,000 in taxpayer funds on legal prep for a House hearing on blue state “sanctuary city” policies, hiring global law firm K&L Gates

  5. Sanctuary states released over 25,000 criminal illegal aliens without notifying ICE from October to February. California led the way, followed by Illinois, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Virginia.

  6. A confrontation erupted outside San Francisco’s Immigration Court between ICE agents and protesters, captured on video by the agency. ICE says assaults on its agents have surged nearly 700% over the past year.

  7. Dr. Christina B. Propst, a pediatrician fired for saying Texas flood victims “got what they voted for,” has issued a groveling apology, taking full responsibility but noting she hadn’t realized the tragedy killed over 100 people.

  8. OneRepublic co-founder Tim Myers announced his campaign for California lieutenant governor, citing a broken political system and President Trump’s attacks on the state as his motivation.

  9. Former Biden climate czar John Kerry admitted that Trump was “right” about the border and said Democrats had let it fall under siege.

  10. Kamala Harris gave a “confusing and weird” interview on the online show Subway Takes that was never aired, the host revealed. The episode was pulled by mutual agreement between Harris and host Kareem Rahma.

In Other News…

  1. A San Francisco judge ruled that Don Lemon’s lawsuit against Elon Musk and X can proceed to trial, rejecting Musk’s attempt to move the case to Texas. Details here…
