Day 167
Fighting for America (literally!)
Today’s Big Story…
President Trump signed the “big, beautiful bill” into law during a patriotic Fourth of July ceremony featuring a military picnic and armed forces flyover.
The event was attended by cheering Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who helped push the bill through the House by a narrow margin.
“Our country has had so much to celebrate this Independence Day as we enter our 249th year. America’s winning, winning, winning like never before,” Trump said before signing the bill. “We have officially made the Trump tax cuts permanent. That’s the largest tax cut in the history of our country,” he continued. “We’re setting all sorts of economic records right now, and that’s before this kicks in. After this kicks in, our country is going to be a rocket ship, economically.”
As a band played the national anthem, a B-2 bomber and two F-35s flew over the White House to honor last month’s U.S. strike on Iranian nuclear sites. Trump invited the pilots from Operation Midnight Hammer to the event. He, First Lady Melania Trump, and guests also watched fireworks over the National Mall.
The sweeping package delivers on key Trump 2024 promises, extending his 2017 tax cuts, slashing taxes on tips and overtime, and allowing auto loan interest deductions. It also includes hundreds of billions in new military spending and funding for mass deportations by financially fortifying ICE like never before.
Another Big Story…
The UFC plans to hold a fight card on the grounds of the White House!
President Trump wants the event to be part of America’s 250th birthday celebration next year on the 4th of July, 2026. Trump is a close friend of UFC President Dana White, and brought him onstage after winning the 2024 election to thank him for his support. Details are still pending as to which fighters will participate, but Trump said he expects the title fight to take place before 20,000 to 25,000 attendees
“We’re going to have a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House,” Trump said at his rally in Des Moines, Iowa. “We have a lot of land there. Every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of America 250. And I even think we’re going to have a UFC fight.”
Former champion Conor McGregor, who hasn’t fought since July 2021, expressed interest in joining the White House event, writing on social media, “I would be honoured. Count me in!”
The only place where disputes truly get settled.
