Day 166
Are Americans still being put first?
Proud to be an American, but worried about America’s future…
Happy 4th of July! In my opinion, there’s nothing better than being American. And while the holiday is great for burgers and hot dogs, beer and fireworks, and maybe hanging out on a boat with family and friends while soaking in the summer sun and sea salt air, it’s always important to remember, as with other American holidays, why this one is the most important one of them all.
Independence Day marks the birth of our country, when the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776, severing ties with British tyranny. This date symbolizes not just a nation’s founding but the audacious spirit of defiance that birthed it, forged in the crucible of revolution. Freedom was not gifted; it was wrested through the blood of patriots—farmers, merchants, and soldiers—who faced musket fire and cannonades, enduring brutal winters and staggering losses at places like Bunker Hill and Valley Forge. The will to fight, rooted in a hunger for self-governance, drove ragtag militias to challenge the world’s mightiest empire, paying a price in lives and suffering that still echoes in the nation’s soul. July 4th is a reminder that liberty demands vigilance and willpower to preserve it. It’s a day to honor the unyielding courage that carved a free nation from the chaos of war.
And now here we are in 2025. As an American, I’m very proud of our president for what he’s been able to accomplish, particularly with immigration. The border is closed, as proven by the declining crossing numbers and encounters recorded by Border Patrol. ICE, while dealing with bureaucratic “blue” tape in liberal cities run by radical mayors (judges), has been heavy in pursuit of catching the worst of the worst illegal alien criminals. The latest jobs report for June, if accurate, indicates that more citizens are gaining jobs than foreign-born individuals. I would love to see those numbers go in that direction for the long term.
With that said, while I do support President Trump (voted for him thrice), there are times as a voter I am hit with disappointment, as is natural for any voter. As a human, you’re not supposed to agree on EVERYTHING with someone. I love my sister, we agree on almost everything, but she likes pink and I like blue. Should I start liking pink more to maximize our agreeability? It would be unnatural and inauthentic of me.
At the Iowa rally last night, Trump addressed an issue that he’s been somewhat waffling on over the past month: what to do with illegal alien workers in the farming and hospitality industries. Weeks ago, there was an internal memo sent to ICE and DHS to ease deportations and arrests of these workers; following backlash, the order was temporarily rescinded. And to clarify, these are workers who are specifically illegal aliens, not ones on a visa or temporary seasonal work permit. Allegedly, as confirmed over the last few weeks and by Trump himself last night, the push to cease immigration enforcement in these industries is being directed by Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. This may not come as a surprise, as many were fearful during her initial nomination to the role that she would favor economic strategy over the will of mass deportations.
In his speech, Trump said his administration’s aggressive deportation policies were now removing “very good, long-time workers” from the list through upcoming legislation. He admitted that the “serious radical right” might be unhappy with this plan but claimed they would understand the need to support farmers.
I must disagree with our president. “Mass deportations” is not a radical right position, or at least it shouldn’t be. If you’ve been a longtime follower of my father’s or others in his field, you know the consequential impact of illegal immigration and how it spider webs to all facets of life. It impacts health care by raising prices due to their mass use of the ER; it impacts auto insurance rates due to uninsured driving increasing amongst their population; it impacts real estate as low-income housing becomes prioritized to shelter them and their families; and yes, while they may not be Sinaloa or Tren de Aragua cartel members, it still impacts our safety.
Because remember: while not every illegal alien is a murderer, there are murderers who are illegal aliens. And ultimately, illegal aliens are lawbreakers. For every murder or crime committed by one, especially against an American, it’s a senseless death that didn’t have to happen, because they’re not meant to be here. For example: Mollie Tibbetts was a 20-year-old student from Iowa who was abducted and murdered while jogging near her home by Cristhian Bahena Rivera, a 24-year-old illegal alien from Mexico. Rivera was not a cartel gangbanger; he was a farm worker illegally employed at Yarrabee Farms, a dairy farm owned by a prominent Iowa Republican family. Rivera stabbed Mollie repeatedly and hid her massacred body in a cornfield. It’s a murder that wouldn’t have happened if our laws were truly followed.
Trump has a lot to balance on his plate: Russia vs. Ukraine, Israel vs. Iran, Chinese aggression and expansion, RINOs obstructing his agenda, radical judges obstructing his agenda, and a dishonest media attacking him from every angle and hit-piece. Plus, the stress of negotiating trade agreements. But in my opinion, illegal immigration is non-negotiable. We need to protect and safeguard our country and the American people; it’s more important than having a high GDP or a robust on-paper economy if it means we’re crippling future generations. I would love to see my youngest sister own a home and have her future children work honest jobs before moving on to a career and starting their own families. But unless the track we’re on is fully corrected, and not just slightly altered, we’re chugging along toward a brick wall that’ll obstruct the generational legacies our founding fathers fought to uphold. Home ownership will be a distant memory; Medical care will become apathetic and by-the-numbers (and increasingly unaffordable); Safety will become a commodity, and all big cities will become hellzones; Labor, if not taken over by AI-robots, will lose its meaning and ties to the original American spirit.
I’m glad Trump got the big, beautiful bill passed, and the tax cuts will definitely bring relief to many who need and deserve it after the previous four tumultuous years. But I hope he and his administration don’t also forget what’s big and beautiful: the Americans of the United States of America.
To conclude, one truth I’ve noticed is how much the Trump administration is willing to listen, especially on social media. If you have an X or Facebook account, voice your issues with the new directive to exclude sectors from immigration enforcement. Send an email or make a phone call to the office of Secretary Rollins (or, better yet, Stephen Miller and Tom Homan). The crazy left likes to march and protest; but reasonable Americans like you and me just want to be heard. And thankfully, this big, beautiful country allows us to speak our truths. We will be heard.
Happy Independence Day and God Bless this incredible nation called the USA,
Denny
