Day 164
Gators, Pythons, Illegals, Oh My!
Today’s Big Story…
President Trump visited the newly built immigration detention center deep in the Florida Everglades, nicknamed ‘Alligator Alcatraz,’ calling it a potential model for future facilities as his administration accelerates deportation efforts.
Arrested illegal aliens could begin arriving as early as this week at the new detention center built at the Dade-Collier Training Airport in Ochopee, Florida. The site, typically used after natural disasters, now includes tents, trailers, temporary medical cubicles, and newly built prison cells. Surrounded by alligator-filled and python-infested swamps, the remote site has quickly become a symbol of Trump’s border crackdown.
President Trump was greeted at the airport by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem before touring the new detention facility and speaking to the press. The touring press pool noted that the detainment cells were air-conditioned, and the governor confirmed that the facility was created and constructed in eight days.
When asked about his relationship with DeSantis following their contentious 2024 GOP primary, Trump said, “I think it’s a 10 — maybe 9.9… might be a couple of little wounds… We get along great,” prompting laughter from DeSantis. Trump later praised the governor again during a press conference, stating: "Ron, I would like to thank you, personally. You're my friend. You will always be my friend. We may have some skirmishes even in the future - I doubt it - but I will always come back. We have blood that seems to match pretty well. We have a relationship that's been a very strong one."

Another Big Story…
Additionally, at the press conference in Florida, President Trump stated that he is open to investigating and possibly arresting former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his handling of the southern border during the administration of former President Biden.
When Trump was asked about growing calls for Mayorkas’s arrest, he responded: “Well, I’d take a look at that one because what he did is it’s beyond incompetence. Something had to be done. Now, with that being said, he took orders from other people, and he was really doing the orders. And you could say he was very loyal to them because it must have been very hard for him to stand up and sit up and, you know, talk about what he allowed to happen to this country and be serious about it. So he was given orders. If he wasn’t given a pardon, I could see looking at that.”
With confirmation by a reporter that Mayorkas was not given a pardon by Biden before leaving office, Trump turned to DHS Secretary Noem and asked: “Why don’t you take a look at it, Kristi?”

Illegal alien arrests for illegal border crossings dropped to just over 6,000 in June—the lowest monthly total in modern Border Patrol history—marking a 41% decline from May, according to Border Czar Tom Homan.
The Trump administration approved millions in disaster relief loans for small businesses hit by anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles, despite Gov. Gavin Newsom blaming the violence on Trump. SBA chief Kelly Loeffler announced that Newsom’s office requested the aid. Businesses can now apply for up to $2 million in low-interest loans to cover expenses disrupted by the unrest.
The Trump administration has officially shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), merging its functions into the State Department. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the move, stating that the consolidation will enhance the oversight and effectiveness of foreign aid.
The Trump administration has reached an agreement with the University of Pennsylvania requiring the school to revoke transgender swimmer Lia Thomas’s records, titles, and other accolades while competing on the women’s swim team. The move follows broader efforts by the administration to enforce new federal guidelines on gender-based eligibility in collegiate athletics.
Israel has agreed to a Trump administration-led proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, during which President Trump said all sides will work toward ending the Middle East conflict.
The U.S. Air Force and Space Force met their 2025 recruiting goals three months ahead of schedule, following similar successes by the Army and Navy, according to Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin.
President Trump announced he’ll travel to Iowa tomorrow, July 3, to kick off Independence Day weekend with “a very special event” honoring America’s 250th anniversary.
U.S. pilots who bombed Iranian nuclear sites will attend the White House’s July 4 celebration, confirmed press secretary Karoline Leavitt. The event will also include a B-2 Spirit bomber flyover—the same jets used in the recent strikes on Iran’s Fordo and Natanz facilities ordered by President Trump.
Vice President…
JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote as the Senate narrowly passed President Trump’s sweeping tax and spending bill in a 51–50 vote, marking a major win for Trump's second-term agenda. After over 24 hours of amendment votes and working through recess, the bill now heads back to the House for final approval.
Congress…
THE HOUSE
•A group of hard-line House conservatives, led by Reps. Andy Harris (R-TN) and Ralph Norman (R-SC), are threatening to block a key procedural vote today on the GOP’s reconciliation bill. Their revolt could stall the legislation and derail leadership’s goal of passing it by July 4.
•Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) slammed the Senate version of the GOP’s tax and spending bill, calling it a “travesty” and demanding major changes in the House. Roy criticized the last-minute deals made to win over moderates like Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).
THE SENATE
•Lara Trump confirmed she's considering a run for Sen. Thom Tillis’s (R-NC) seat, days after he announced his retirement.
•Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) forced a last-minute name change to President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” just before it passed the Senate. Schumer raised a point of order objecting to the bill’s official short title, leading to its removal.
•Republicans’ sweeping domestic policy bill includes a surprise excise tax on wind and solar projects, catching both the renewable energy industry and several senators off guard. No senator has claimed responsibility for the provision, and Budget Committee Chair Lindsey Graham says he doesn’t know how it got in.
•The Senate-passed version of President Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” would overhaul student loan programs, sparking concerns over higher monthly payments. The bill cuts repayment plans to two, limits federal borrowing, and changes deferment rules, alarming advocates about reduced options for borrowers.
The Resistance…
As House Republicans probe Biden’s alleged cognitive decline, former DNC insider Lindy Li claims to hold valuable insights. The ex-DNC fundraiser says she had a front-row seat to Biden’s presidency and identified Jill Biden and top advisor Anthony Bernal as key figures behind the scenes.
Former MSNBC host Joy Reid criticized Florida’s new illegal alien detention center on her podcast, calling it a “concentration camp” and claiming it was designed to “round up brown people.”
A new report claims that President Trump’s immigration crackdown could worsen Social Security’s outlook by reducing contributions from illegal alien workers, who paid an estimated $24 billion into the system in 2024 despite being ineligible for benefits. Social Security’s trust funds are projected to run out by 2034.
Fourth of July events across Southern California are being canceled or postponed amid ICE’s crackdown on illegal immigration. Illegal alien families are reportedly avoiding public gatherings
Newly declassified FBI documents reveal the bureau blocked a probe into claims that the Chinese Communist Party sent fake driver’s licenses to the U.S. to sway the 2020 election for Joe Biden, fearing it would contradict then-Director Christopher Wray’s congressional testimony. The records were declassified by current Director Kash Patel.
Two Chinese nationals have been charged with acting as agents for China’s Ministry of State Security, allegedly gathering intelligence on U.S. Navy personnel and bases, and recruiting others for espionage. The DOJ said Yuance Chen and Liren Lai, who arrived on a tourist visa in April 2025, were arrested.
A federal judge blocked the Trump administration’s plan to restructure the Department of Health and Human Services by cutting 10,000 jobs and closing agencies. The injunction, issued by Judge Melissa DuBose in Rhode Island, came in response to a lawsuit from Democratic-led states challenging HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s proposal.

Smilinbaby2002: “Love the way everything is explained in detail. I would like to know if you have any information about making the bills under 100 pages long, as I thought at one point, senators and Congress were talking about?”
47 Report: Yes, Congress has discussed limiting bill length—such as capping them at 100 pages—but no such rule has been adopted. Lawmakers have proposed measures such as the "Read the Bills Act" and the "One Subject at a Time Act" to make legislation shorter and easier to understand. However, these efforts haven’t become law, and there is currently no limit on bill length.
