Today’s Big Story…

President Trump doubled down on promoting the “One Big Beautiful Bill” while hosting a White House event just hours after the legislation faced a major setback in the Senate.

Speaking in the East Room before dozens of Americans he said would benefit from the bill’s tax cuts, Trump also focused heavily on the measure’s border security provisions. He invited Border Security Czar Tom Homan to the stage, who urged Congress to pass the bill, emphasizing it would allow the administration to hire 10,000 deportation officers, 5,000 Border Patrol agents, and ramp up deportation efforts to over 1 million people annually.

Earlier, before the event, the Senate parliamentarian ruled that several cost-cutting measures in the bill violated Senate rules, including a $250 billion Medicaid savings plan targeting state provider taxes. The decision has forced Senate Republicans to revise the legislation and threatens Trump’s goal of signing it by July 4.

The bill is the cornerstone of Trump’s domestic agenda. At the White House event, he promoted key features including extended Trump-era tax cuts, education vouchers for homeschooling and private religious schools, tax deductions for tips and farm equipment, and the elimination of estate taxes on family farms. Despite narrow GOP control in both chambers, internal opposition remains with some Republicans, including Ron Johnson (R-WI), Rand Paul (R-KY), and Rick Scott (R-FL).

Another Big Story…

President Trump's tariffs are driving a historical surge in revenue, with U.S. importers contributing over $26.7 billion in customs and excise taxes so far in June, putting the month on track for a new record

June’s tariff revenue has already surpassed May’s $22 billion, with a $19.9 billion single-day deposit pushing the monthly total past April’s $17.4 billion and March’s $9.6 billion. The surge continues a trend in Trump’s second term, with revenues far exceeding both recent historical figures and those from his first term.

In total, the government has collected over $121 billion since the start of the fiscal year.

The Administration…

  1. At the White House event, President Trump highlighted James Benson, a third-generation Ford autoworker from Michigan and former Democrat, now backing Trump over vehicle loan interest tax benefits. Benson stood with others from various trades as Trump promoted the “big, beautiful bill” in the East Room.

  2. At the NATO press conference in the Netherlands, President Trump took a question from Myroslava Petsa, a reporter with the BBC Ukrainian Service, about U.S. support for Patriot defense systems. Afterward, he inquired about her background and, upon learning that her husband is a Ukrainian soldier, expressed personal interest and sympathy for her situation.

  3. President Trump also criticized Spain for not meeting NATO’s new 5% defense spending goal. He added that Spain’s stance prompted the U.S. to negotiate a trade deal requiring them to “pay twice as much.”

  4. White House economic advisor Stephen Miran warned that failing to pass President Trump’s domestic policy bill by the July 4 deadline could trigger a recession.

  5. The Small Business Administration has ordered a full audit of all contracting officers who issued grants through its business development program over the past 15 years, following a major bribery scandal at USAID. SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler called the fraud a “damning reflection of systemic failures.”

  6. Gen. Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, revealed that just 44 soldiers, ages 21 to 28, were left to defend Al Udeid Air Base during the Iranian missile barrage. After an evacuation, the skeleton crew had only two Patriot systems to protect the key Middle East headquarters, which houses 10,000 U.S. troops.

  7. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth fired back at a reporter who questioned why he hadn’t mentioned female pilots in his praise of the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. The reporter noted his early message only congratulated “the boys.” Hegseth responded sharply, saying, “We don’t play your little games.

  8. The White House will scale back intelligence sharing with Congress after a leak of early damage assessments from U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites. Less information will now be posted to CAPNET, the system used for sharing classified material.

  9. The Pentagon released striking footage of 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs used in strikes on Iran, showing a GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator slamming into a fortified target and igniting a bright inferno deep underground.

Vice President…

JD Vance came under scrutiny when the media reported a tourist was denied entry into the U.S. over a picture meme of the VP. U.S. officials denied the claim, with Homeland Security posting on Facebook that the Norwegian tourist, Mads Mikkelsen, was denied for admitted drug use.

Congress…

THE HOUSE

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) faced criticism for calling herself a “Bronx girl” during a clash with President Trump. State Assemblyman Matt Slater (R-Yorktown) called her out, posting a yearbook photo of her as a freshman in suburban Yorktown—40 minutes from the Bronx.

House Republicans joined Democrats on the Appropriations Committee to approve a plan allowing U.S. businesses to significantly increase foreign H-2B visa workers for blue-collar jobs like construction, landscaping, and dairy. The move, led by Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), comes as President Trump works to reverse Biden’s migrant-driven job growth.

Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) sent letters to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, proposing a task force to quickly remove about 1.4 million illegal aliens currently enrolled in Medicaid.

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), 88, revealed she plans to run for re-election—but her staff later walked it back, continuing a pattern of mixed signals as calls grow for her to step aside.

THE SENATE

A key Medicaid provider tax change in Senate Republicans’ version of Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” has been struck down by Senate rules. Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled the provision violated the Byrd Rule, according to Senate Budget Committee Democrats.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) urged Majority Leader John Thune to fire MacDonough “ASAP” after she struck down key GOP proposals to cut Medicaid spending and restrict coverage for undocumented immigrants. The rulings dealt a blow to efforts to fund President Trump’s tax agenda.

Kentucky businessman Nate Morris launched his Senate campaign to succeed retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY). He announced the bid on Donald Trump Jr.’s podcast, saying he aims to “take out the trash” in Washington.

The Resistance…

  1. In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court upheld South Carolina’s authority to block Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood. The case focused on whether Medicaid patients can sue to choose their own qualified provider. Liberal Justices Jackson, Sotomayor, and Kagan dissented, as the case touched on broader tensions over abortion access.

  2. California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office mocked U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon on social media, just hours after she announced the state had violated Title IX over trans athletes in girls' sports. Newsom’s press office posted an old WWE clip of McMahon being body-slammed by wrestler “Kane” in a move called the “tombstone piledriver.”

  3. Several people were arrested after a violent riot outside a Portland ICE facility involving knives and explosives. One rioter attempted to launch a Roman Candle firework at officers.

  4. The DOJ is suing Minnesota over its 2013 Dream Act, which grants in-state tuition and state aid to illegal aliens. The lawsuit names Gov. Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and the Office of Higher Education.

  5. The Harvard Kennedy School will lay off staff due to major federal funding cuts and looming endowment tax hikes. Dean Jeremy M. Weinstein cited deep research funding cuts, proposed endowment tax increases, and a drop in international enrollment following the end of the student visa program linked to campus protests. International students made up 59% of the student body.

  6. Dominique Alexander, spokesman for Karmelo Anthony’s family and president of the Next Generation Action Network, called the teen’s murder trial in Austin Metcalf’s death a fight against “white supremacy.”

  7. Former Rep. Jamaal Bowman claimed that higher rates of obesity, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes among Black Americans are linked to the daily stress of racism, including slurs like the N-word. He blamed the nation’s “original sin” of hatred toward Black and Brown people.

  8. Michelle Obama’s effort to shut down divorce rumors has only added fuel to the fire. In an interview with NPR, she addressed the speculation but stopped short of outright denial, leaving fans questioning whether there’s more to the story.

  9. The law firm Winston & Strawn LLP is suing Hunter Biden for unpaid legal fees. The firm claims it provided extensive services for multiple federal cases, including his criminal trial in Delaware, and alleges Biden has not paid the substantial fees owed.

  10. Actress and comedian Rosie O’Donnell told Chris Cuomo that Trump’s first term severely impacted her mental health, leading her to overeat, drink, and ultimately move to Ireland to escape the stress.

  11. Veteran strategist James Carville warned that democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani winning the New York City mayoral primary could become a liability for the Democratic Party.

Gladlee M: “NY is bad enough now. With this new Anti-American Mayor, no one will want to visit NYC!

47 Report: If Zohran Mamdani becomes mayor of NYC, it will never be the same. The city has been hurting for years under weak leadership; it’s far from the days of Rudy Giuliani’s leadership. While we won’t be advocating for Mayor Eric Adams, he would be a significant improvement over the alternative — a radical socialist like Mamdani (and unfortunately, GOP candidate Curtis Silwa has very little chance).

Barb J: ”Could you provide more info about the Farm Bill amendment, please? Perhaps I missed it if you already have. Is there anyone we can contact to object to the amendment in order to preserve access to CBD products (any specific congressional people)? Thank you!”

Ron W: “Shocking news about the future of CBD?????? What is going on? As usual this newsletter is packed with information! Also after reading all of it twice I am grateful I live in Florida at least for now.”

47 Report: The Miller Amendment, part of the Farm Bill, is under consideration by the House Agriculture Committee and could significantly impact the hemp industry if adopted. Proposed by Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), it aims to redefine hemp to exclude products with any quantifiable THC, effectively banning most consumable hemp-derived cannabinoid products, including many CBD items. This would outlaw approximately 90-95% of hemp products, potentially devastating farmers, small businesses, and consumers reliant on these products. The amendment was added via a procedural tactic by Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson (R-PA), thereby avoiding a roll-call vote, which has drawn criticism from industry advocates. Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), a key figure in the House Appropriations Committee, has also pushed similar language in the FY 2025 Agriculture/FDA Appropriations Bill. The outcome of the vote currently remains uncertain.
