Today’s Big Story…

President Trump headed from the Oval Office to the Situation Room for a “war room” meeting with top generals amid the Iran nuclear crisis.

At least three Iranian planes, including two government aircraft and one from Meraj Airlines, landed in Muscat, Oman—the same city where past U.S.-Iran nuclear talks took place. The Iranian government has not commented on the visit.

Earlier during the day, while speaking to reporters outside the White House during the raising of two new flag poles, Trump said, “For 40 years, they’ve been saying ‘death to America.’ If you go back 15 years, I was saying we CANNOT let Iran have a nuclear weapon… We’re not looking for long-term war. I only want one thing — Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. That’s it.

He noted no decision had been made yet on using U.S. military force. However, Trump confirmed he was running out of patience with Iran, stating: “It’s already run out. They had 60 days… plenty of time, and they made a mistake.”

Another Big Story…

The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady, keeping the key rate at 4.25%–4.5%, where it has remained since December 2024.

Despite expectations of rising inflation and slower growth, the Fed still signaled two rate cuts later this year. And while the Fed’s “dot plot” still shows two rate cuts likely by the end of 2025, one cut was removed from projections for both 2026 and 2027, totaling four future cuts, or one percentage point. The wide range of projections reflects continued uncertainty, with a median 2027 rate estimate near 3.4%.

Trump also spoke about Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s refusal to cut rates during the unveiling of the new White House flag poles. He ripped into the chairman, stating: “I think he hates me, he should, I call him every name in the book trying to get him to do something. I’ve been nice to him… I call him ‘too late.’ ‘Come on, too late, let’s have dinner.' I’ve done it every way in the book, I’ve been nasty and nice.”

Trump also said Powell is a “stupid person” who has done a poor job, but has so far said he will not fire him. Not long after Trump’s comments, Powell blamed Trump’s tariffs as the reason for keeping interest rates high.

The Administration…

  1. Stocks closed mixed after the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady at its June policy meeting. The Dow slipped 44.14 points (0.1%), the S&P 500 dipped 0.03%, while the Nasdaq edged up 0.13%.

  2. A growing number of Israelis are urging President Trump to deepen U.S. involvement in the war with Iran, with billboards in Tel Aviv reading, “Mr. President, finish the job.” As Israel’s Security Cabinet met, Prime Minister Netanyahu thanked Trump, as the region awaits possible U.S. escalation.

  3. Tucker Carlson called President Trump to apologize after criticizing him for backing Israeli missile strikes on Iran. Trump revealed the call came after he mocked Carlson as “kooky” and noted he’s no longer on cable TV.

  4. FBI Director Kash Patel condemned a former Coast Guard officer arrested for allegedly threatening to assassinate President Trump, blaming the incident partly on a “destructive” Instagram post by former FBI Director James Comey.

  5. President Trump’s highest approval rating is on immigration, according to June’s Harvard-Harris poll. The survey showed Trump with 44% approval on the economy, outperforming Biden’s 37% rating from January.

  6. In May 2024, the Biden administration released over 62,000 of nearly 118,000 illegal aliens caught crossing the southern border. One year later, under Trump, illegal crossings dropped to 8,725—a 93% decline—and none were released into the U.S., according to CBP.

  7. The Supreme Court upheld Tennessee’s ban on gender transition care for minors in a 6-3 ruling, dealing a major setback to transgender rights. The decision, split along ideological lines, could affect similar laws in 24 other states restricting surgeries, puberty blockers, and hormone therapy for youth.

Vice President…

JD Vance was briefly suspended from the social media platform Bluesky just minutes after joining and posting about the Supreme Court’s ruling on Tennessee’s transgender care restrictions. His account was reinstated shortly after the suspension.

Congress…

THE HOUSE

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) claimed “no one is attacking or has attacked Americans” in reference to Iran and urged President Trump not to drag the U.S. into another war on Israel’s behalf. However, a recent report refuted her statement, citing incidents like the 1979 U.S. Embassy hostage crisis, the 1983 Beirut bombings, and the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) called pro-intervention Republicans “war pimps” in an interview, criticizing those backing U.S. involvement in the Iran-Israel conflict. He highlighted the GOP divide between non-interventionists like Tucker Carlson and hawks like Sens. Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz.

THE SENATE

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) clashed with Tucker Carlson in a heated interview over Cruz’s support for Trump and his stance on Israel’s conflict with Iran. In a preview clip, Carlson pressed Cruz on details about Iran, criticizing him for not knowing key facts about “the country you seek to topple.”

President Trump said he’s undecided on supporting Sen. Josh Hawley’s proposal to raise the federal minimum wage to $15. The bipartisan bill, co-sponsored by Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT), would more than double the current $7.25 rate.

Democratic senators criticized Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for restoring the original names of nine military bases once named after Confederate leaders. Seven bases will revert to previous names with new honorees, while Fort Liberty and Fort Moore have already been renamed back to Fort Bragg and Fort Benning.

Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Eric Schmitt (R-MO) accused former Biden officials, Democrats, and the media of covering up what they say was President Biden’s clear cognitive decline during his last two years in office.

The Resistance…

  1. Iran warned it will retaliate if the U.S. joins Israel’s fight, as Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar told the U.N. that Iran has “crossed every red line.” Israel launched airstrikes on 20 Iranian military targets.

  2. At least three Chinese transport planes flew to Iran in the days after Israel began striking its nuclear and military sites, with unknown cargo and missions. The planes followed a route through Central Asia before disappearing from radar near Iran. Though they filed flight plans for Luxembourg, they never approached Europe.

  3. The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg claimed America treats black people as poorly as Iran treats its citizens, comparing isolated U.S. crime cases to Iran’s harsh Sharia law.

  4. Democratic strategist James Carville claimed that HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. could "kill more people than any cabinet secretary" due to his stance on vaccines, calling them the greatest public health tool in history.

  5. Former White House chief of staff and Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel confirmed he’s considering a 2028 Democratic presidential run, citing a leadership gap. Emanuel led the Democrats’ successful 2006 midterm strategy, courting swing voters with moderate candidates.

  6. Former CNN host Jim Acosta claimed that farmers are being “led astray” by the far right, which he says has “infiltrated the heartland.” Speaking at a Center for American Progress event, Acosta claimed many Americans lack access to reliable news.

  7. Acosta also mocked the president in a podcast interview, crudely joking about his late ex-wife Ivana being buried at a Trump golf course.

  8. Legacy media outlets widely criticized the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding Tennessee’s ban on transgender care for minors, framing it as a “setback for transgender rights.” They described the decision as a “major blow,” “devastating loss,” or “stunning setback,” despite it applying only to minors.

  9. After NYC mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested by ICE for obstruction outside a federal immigration court, Gov. Kathy Hochul joined Democrats in protest, criticizing ICE arrests of illegal aliens who lack legal representation. She announced $50 million in state funding for their legal aid.

  10. ICE raided Delta Downs Racetrack in Vinton, Louisiana, detaining over 80 illegal aliens working in backstretch jobs.

  11. Roberto Carlos Munoz, a Guatemalan national living illegally in the U.S. since at least the Obama era, was arrested in Minnesota after dragging an ICE agent 50 yards with his car while trying to flee. DHS said Munoz, a repeat offender, had been arrested multiple times but remained free.

  12. California Gov. Gavin Newsom blamed President Trump for worsening wildfires, claiming National Guard troops were diverted from firefighting to handle riots. Despite the criticism, Newsom is seeking $40 billion in federal aid, requiring Trump’s approval. Eight wildfires are burning across the state.

  13. Police are investigating a break-in at the boarded-up home where Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot in a “politically motivated” attack.
