Today’s Big Story…
President Trump has declined to sign a G7 statement urging de-escalation between Israel and Iran, marking a clear split with other world leaders at the summit in Alberta, Canada, according to an anonymous White House official.
The draft, obtained by The New York Times, calls on both nations to stop attacks that have killed dozens in recent days. A G7 official stated that talks on the Middle East are ongoing and the statement is not yet finalized. Both officials spoke to the NYT on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue.
The draft G7 statement voices concern over the conflict that began last week with Israeli strikes on Iran, including nuclear research sites. The statement, prepared for leaders of the G7 (U.S., Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan), affirms Israel’s right to self-defense and stresses the importance of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear arms. Ultimately, it all stems from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claiming the attacks are aimed at stopping Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
The draft also urges both Iran and Israel to de-escalate and pursue diplomacy to address Iran’s nuclear ambitions. While President Trump declined to sign the statement, a White House official said he remains committed to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. In a recent interview with ABC News, Trump said he is open to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin mediating the conflict between Israel and Iran. In addition, Trump opined that Russia should be allowed to rejoin the international league of the G7.

Another Big Story…
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi claimed that a single phone call from President Donald Trump could stop Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he labeled a “war criminal.” In a social media post, Araghchi accused Netanyahu of manipulating U.S. presidents for decades to wage Israel’s wars and urged Trump to intervene and help de-escalate the growing conflict.
The statement comes as tensions between Israel and Iran continue to escalate. Israel has launched targeted strikes aimed at crippling Iran’s military infrastructure and eliminating top officials, while Iran has responded with missile attacks on Israeli civilian areas. Reports indicate the Israeli military has prepared at least two more weeks of planned strikes.
This also comes after Trump urged everyone to immediately evacuate Tehran, and reiterated that Iran should have signed a nuclear deal with the United States to avoid this war with Israel.
"Iran should have signed the “deal” I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!" –President Donald J. Trump

The Administration…
Ahead of the G7 summit, President Trump briefly addressed reporters, discussing Russia’s removal from the G8 under Obama and Trudeau and his recent post calling for ICE to ramp up deportations in major U.S. cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago.
Additionally, President Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced details of a new U.S.-U.K. trade deal during the G7 summit in Canada, touting it as a job-creating agreement. The deal boosts U.S. exports—especially beef, ethanol, and other agricultural goods—and sets a new annual quota of 100,000 British cars at a reduced 10% tariff. Both nations also agreed to pursue favorable terms on U.K. pharmaceuticals and to strengthen cooperation on steel and aluminum supply chain security.
Surprisingly, President Trump criticized former ally Tucker Carlson at the summit and on Truth Social, dismissing his call for the U.S. to avoid war with Iran, and poked at Carlson for not being on television anymore. Trump also called Carlson “kooky” and wrote that “Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.” Many consider the former Fox News host an influential individual during Trump’s 2024 campaign.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced he’s deploying more U.S. defensive assets to the Middle East amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran. While he didn’t specify the equipment, reports say refueling aircraft and an aircraft carrier are being sent.
President Trump fired Democratic Nuclear Regulatory (NRC) Commissioner Christopher Hanson. Hanson claimed he was removed “without cause” and in violation of laws protecting independent agency officials.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned that “rogue state actors” refusing to follow federal immigration laws could lose DOT funding, putting key infrastructure resources at risk.
The Trump Organization launched “Trump Mobile,” offering a $499 Trump-branded phone and a $47.45/month plan that includes telemedicine, roadside assistance, and international texting.

Congress…
THE HOUSE
•House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has postponed his trip to Israel amid escalating conflict with Iran. He was set to address the Knesset, becoming the third House Speaker to do so.
•Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) criticized pro-war voices within the MAGA movement, saying those pushing for full U.S. involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict aren't truly "America First." Her comments reflect a growing divide in MAGA circles over foreign policy, with some favoring strong support for Israel and others warning against deeper U.S. entanglement.
•Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina is considering a run for governor in the state’s 2026 election and indicated she may announce her decision soon.
THE SENATE
•Senate Republicans are targeting Medicaid more aggressively in their new legislation to fund Trump’s domestic agenda and extend his tax cuts. The bill aims to limit states’ use of state-directed payments and provider taxes to increase Medicaid funding.
•Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) introduced a resolution to block U.S. military action against Iran without congressional approval. It reaffirms that the president must have explicit authorization for hostilities, while allowing self-defense against imminent attacks.
•Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said he supports Israel targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu echoed this sentiment, saying such a move would end the conflict with Iran, not escalate it.
•Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer requested $600,000 in taxpayer funds for the Chinese-American Planning Council, a New York nonprofit under congressional investigation for helping illegal aliens evade federal agents.
The Resistance…
A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration’s decision to cancel NIH health grants tied to “gender ideology” and “diversity, equity, and inclusion” was unlawful. U.S. District Judge William Young, a Reagan appointee, called the move arbitrary and ordered the government to restore funding immediately.
Hillary Clinton faced backlash on social media after mocking President Trump’s military parade celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary. Critics accused her of showing contempt for the military and pointed out she spent the weekend in the Hamptons at a former aide’s wedding while criticizing Trump.
Notably, leftist billionaire George Soros did not attend his son Alex’s weekend wedding to Huma Abedin but was present at a smaller family ceremony the day before, which honored both Abedin’s Muslim faith and Soros’ Jewish heritage with an imam and rabbi as officiants.
After a week of riots in Los Angeles, Catholic Vote released the “Gavin Newsom Files,” accusing the California governor of promoting an “extreme” and “anti-Christian” agenda.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass used Father’s Day to criticize the Trump administration’s immigration raids, posting on X that children in L.A. were waking up unsure if they'd see their fathers again. Her remarks drew backlash on social media.
North Carolina Democrat Rep. Julie von Haefen is facing backlash for posting a video from a “No Kings” protest that included an image of a guillotine sign with what looked like Trump’s severed head
Former Coast Guard lieutenant Peter Stinson was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill President Trump. Stinson, a Virginia resident who served from 1988 to 2021, was also a FEMA instructor and sharpshooter. An FBI affidavit revealed multiple online threats, including a post referencing a past murder, implying Trump should be "Luigied."
Former FBI agent Jonathan Gilliam called visa overstays a national security threat following the Boulder terror attack that injured 15. DHS data shows over 1.5 million people overstayed their visas from 2020 to 2023.
