Today’s Big Story…

President Trump announced he’s scaling back his immigration policy, shifting focus to deporting illegal alien criminals, which has created a deep divide within the MAGA movement.

He claimed the move aims to support the hotel, leisure, and farming industries. During a bill signing blocking California’s planned 2035 ban on new gas-powered vehicles, Trump doubled down on his Truth Social comments. When asked by Peter Doocy about a possible executive order granting amnesty to illegal workers in farming and hospitality, Trump confirmed the idea is under consideration, aligning with his shift to prioritize deporting only criminal offenders.

I put out a statement today about farmers. Our farmers are being hurt badly by, you know, they have very good workers; They've worked for them for 20 years. They're not citizens, but they've turned out to be, you know, great. And we're going to have to do something about that,” said Trump. “And you know what happens? They end up hiring the people, the criminals that have come in, the murderers from prisons and everything else. So we're going to have an order on that pretty soon, I think. We can't do that to our farmers, and leisure too, hotels.

Trump’s comments alluding to partial amnesty or reduced deportations have divided his supporters, especially those who expected him to follow through on mass deportations for all illegal aliens. Critics noted that farm and hotel jobs can be filled legally through visa programs, rather than by individuals who entered the country illegally. Others argued that investing in trade schools and training young Americans for farming would be a better solution than legitimizing illegal labor.

Another Big Story…

Israel launched a “preemptive strike” against Iran late last night and declared a state of emergency, with Defense Minister Israel Katz warning of an imminent missile and drone attack in response. Air raid sirens soon sounded in Tel Aviv.

Israeli forces struck Tehran, targeting nuclear and military sites as explosions echoed across the capital. An Israeli official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the operation, which follows years of warnings from Israel that it would act to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Iranian state TV reported that Gen. Hossein Salami, head of the Revolutionary Guard, is feared dead from the attack, along with another top Guard official and two nuclear scientists.

The strike came shortly after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) censured Iran for the first time in 20 years over its lack of cooperation. Iran responded by announcing plans for a third enrichment site and upgrades to its centrifuges.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the operation a necessary move to protect Israel’s survival and pledged to continue “as long as needed.” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio supported the action as self-defense and warned Iran not to retaliate against the U.S. According to Axios, the Trump administration has informed Israel it will not take part in any direct military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Meanwhile, the U.S. pulled some diplomats from Iraq and neighboring regions, offering voluntary evacuations for military families, too.

The Administration…

  • Foreign nationals can now join a waitlist for the “Trump Card,” a fast-track to U.S. citizenship for those investing $5 million. President Trump noted that 15,000 have already signed up, totaling $75 billion in potential investment. Calling it a “once in a lifetime opportunity,” Trump said it would help balance the budget and boost the economy. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick also promoted the program.

  • President Trump rolled back California’s leading vehicle emissions standards by signing three resolutions under the Congressional Review Act. The move fulfills his pledge to dismantle electric vehicle mandates nationwide.

  • President Trump also signed an executive order aimed at preventing wildfires through improved forest management and interagency cooperation.

  • Aaron Reitz, a senior Justice Department official under President Trump, has resigned to run for Texas attorney general, calling it a “fight for the soul of Texas.” He is a former Marine and ex-chief of staff to Sen. Ted Cruz.

  • Conservative actor Jon Voight, 86, posted a fiery two-minute video attacking California Gov. Gavin Newsom. A strong Trump supporter, Voight titled the video “To the Governor.”

  • The White House began new construction on President Trump’s orders to pave the Rose Garden and add flagpoles to the north and south lawns. These updates are part of a series of personal touches in his second term, including gold accents in the Oval Office, self-portraits, and plans for a new ballroom.

  • Armored tanks, combat aircraft, and soldiers in historical uniforms will highlight tomorrow’s Army's 250th anniversary parade in D.C. The Secret Service expects “hundreds of thousands” along the National Mall, with Black Hawk, Chinook, and Apache helicopters flying over Constitution Avenue.

Vice President…

JD Vance accused Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell of “monetary malpractice” for not cutting interest rates amid easing inflation. His comment followed a report showing the consumer price index rose 2.4% in May, slightly up from April’s 2.3%.

Congress…

THE HOUSE

The House voted 214-212 to cut $9.4 billion in previously approved spending, following efforts led by DOGE. The cuts target foreign aid and funding for National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).

Six Hispanic Republicans, led by Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX), urged the Trump administration to focus deportations only on illegal aliens charged with violent crimes in a letter to ICE Director Todd Lyons.

Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) accused Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent of interrupting her due to her gender during a tense House Ways and Means hearing, drawing audible groans.

Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-CA) told Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to “get the hell out” of the Defense Department, calling him an “embarrassment” after Hegseth dismissed his question during a House hearing. The remark prompted an immediate call for decorum from the House Armed Services Committee.

THE SENATE

Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) was rushed out by authorities after interrupting Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference on the Los Angeles anti-ICE riots. As Padilla spoke over Noem, officers ordered him to raise his hands and escorted him out. Noem continued her remarks without pause.

Padilla, along with Democratic Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) introduced the El Salvador Accountability Act of 2025 to sanction President Nayib Bukele and other Salvadoran officials for assisting the Trump administration with deportations. The bill would block visas, freeze assets, cut U.S. funding, and oppose international aid to El Salvador.

The U.S. Senate voted 53-44 to confirm former Rep. Billy Long of Missouri as Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, with the vote falling along party lines.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) has opened an investigation into Ed Martin, the pardon attorney and head of the Weaponization Working Group, making claims on his past conduct and alleged threats to misuse his DOJ roles.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) wrote in a New York Times guest essay that she agrees with President Trump on eliminating the national debt ceiling, writing: “It is possible that hell has frozen over.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is relaunching his nationwide “Fighting Oligarchy” tour.

The Resistance…

  1. A federal judge has blocked President Trump’s deployment of California National Guard troops during statewide protests, calling the action “illegal” and ordering control to be returned to Gov. Gavin Newsom.

  2. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson urged residents to protest the Trump administration’s immigration raids, as similar demonstrations in cities like Los Angeles have turned violent and destructive.

  3. Reality TV star Kim Kardashian criticized ICE for “ripping people from their families.” In response, Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin challenged her, asking which convicted criminal, murderer, or rapist she believes should be allowed to stay in the country.

  4. On “The View,” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin cautioned against “demonizing” ICE during a segment on the LA riots, while the other hosts continued criticizing President Trump for deploying troops to assist law enforcement.

  5. The far-left group “No Kings” is organizing nationwide anti-Trump protests for tomorrow—the same day as Trump’s military parade in D.C. for the Army’s 250th birthday. A TikTok video claims organizers are offering $200 a day to participants to disrupt cities across the U.S.

  6. The DOJ instructed its nearly 100 U.S. Attorney Offices to prepare for potential criminal investigations tied to the nationwide “No Kings” protests against Trump administration policies. Thousands are expected to participate.

  7. Walmart may face a MAGA-led boycott after Christy Walton, widow of Walmart heir John T. Walton, funded a full-page New York Times ad promoting anti-Trump protests on Flag Day, which is also Trump’s birthday. The ad is also run by the “No Kings” movement

  8. Authorities released the mugshot of Chengxuan Han, a Chinese national accused of smuggling undeclared biological material into the U.S. Her detention hearing was delayed after her attorney requested more time to address bond-related issues.

In Other News…

  1. Two new reports may shed light on a tragic Air India crash. A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with 242 people aboard went down near a medical school hostel in Ahmedabad, killing 241 passengers and at least one person on the ground. Remarkably, one person survived. Details here…
