Today’s Big Story…

Amid the escalating riots in Los Angeles, President Trump was asked if Border Czar Tom Homan should follow through on arresting California Gov. Gavin Newsom for aiding illegal aliens.

Newsom had challenged Homan to try, threatening a lawsuit over the National Guard deployment. As President Trump returned to the White House from Camp David, Fox News' Peter Doocy asked if Homan should arrest Newsom for the situation in LA, prompting Trump to respond: “I would do it if I were Tom.”

Trump added, “Gavin likes the publicity; Look, I like Gavin—he’s a nice guy—but he’s grossly incompetent.”

Rioters across LA have set fire to vehicles, looted storefronts, and harassed police officers and ICE agents while waving around Mexican flags and tossing cinderblocks from highway overpasses onto patrol cars. Many of the agitators are illegal aliens and supporters of illegal immigration, with hundreds of them posing resistance to authorities and wreaking havoc on the city of the Golden State. Officials like Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass have been passive in handling the situation, while Trump and his administration have proactively deployed 2,000 National Guard and 700 Marines to quell the violent unrest.

Another Big Story…

At President Trump’s "Invest America" roundtable, business leaders voiced support for a proposal to create $1,000 investment accounts for every newborn in the U.S., part of a Republican-backed budget bill moving through Congress.

Dell Technologies pledged to match the government’s $1,000 contribution for the children of its employees if the plan becomes law. “We’ll match it dollar for dollar,” CEO Michael Dell said during the event.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon also endorsed the initiative, with Solomon saying his firm would be “excited to further support” the program. Other executives in attendance looking to make similar commitments included Robinhood’s Vladimir Tenev, Arm Holdings CEO Rene Haas, and Slack CTO and Salesforce cofounder Parker Harris.

The Administration…

  • The feud between Elon Musk and President Trump may be cooling. After Musk’s departure as a special government employee, Trump criticized Gov. Newsom and Mayor Bass over the L.A. riots. Musk shared the post, suggesting possible alignment.

  • Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins said a Los Angeles VA clinic was forced to close after weekend riots that saw vandalism and attacks on police and federal agents.

  • Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, said the LA raids that triggered recent riots were tied to a criminal probe into money laundering and cartel activity, not immigration enforcement.

  • FBI Director Kash Patel issued a sharp statement on the LA riots, declaring the FBI doesn't need permission to act. “LA is under siege by marauding criminals, and we will restore law and order,” wrote Patel.

  • The Trump administration issued new sanctions on the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel for fentanyl trafficking. The Treasury Department also sanctioned El Chapo’s sons, Ivan and Alfredo Guzman Salazar, calling them fugitive leaders of the group behind U.S.-bound fentanyl operations.

  • U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has removed all 17 members of the vaccine advisory committee, citing conflicts of interest that he says have eroded public trust.

  • U.S. and Chinese officials met for a two-day session aimed at improving trade ties and easing tensions. Talks lasted nearly seven hours; Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called it a “good meeting,” and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick described it as “fruitful.”

Vice President…

JD Vance appeared to support deporting fashion blogger Derek Guy, known as "Menswear Guy.” Guy had revealed he came to the U.S. illegally from Canada as a child. Responding to a post referencing Guy’s status, Vance replied, suggesting he might “do the funniest thing ever,” seemingly alluding to deportation. Guy has previously mocked Vance and other officials with fashion critiques.

Congress…

THE HOUSE

Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, announced he will retire and leave Congress for the private sector after an upcoming vote on President Trump’s immigration bill.

Rep. Norma Torres (D-CA) faced backlash from conservatives after telling federal agents arresting illegal aliens in Los Angeles to “get the f— out” in a social media post.

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) is being targeted by the progressive group Indivisible, known for organizing Tesla protests and other far-left actions. The group is backing Rockland County legislator Beth Davidson, a progressive Democrat, to challenge Lawler and build opposition to President Trump in Congress.

THE SENATE

Senate Majority Leader John Thune is pushing to revive momentum for President Trump’s stalled bill, aiming to meet the slipping July 4 deadline. Amid GOP infighting over spending cuts, Thune plans to form small working groups to resolve key issues.

White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller criticized Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) for opposing Trump’s tax and spending bill, accusing him of trying to cut deportation and border security funding as ICE faces violent protests in LA.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) broke with his party to condemn the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles, calling them “anarchy and true chaos.” He added on X that he supports free speech, peaceful protest, and immigration, but not violence.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) called Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s firing of all 17 CDC vaccine panel experts “excessive,” but said she needs more information before drawing conclusions.

The Resistance…

  1. Gov. Gavin Newsom responded sharply to Trump’s call for his arrest, calling it a “sad day for America” and warning it marked a step toward authoritarianism, claiming: “These are the acts of a dictator, not a President.”

  2. Hillary Clinton, who lost to Trump in 2016, weighed in on the unrest in Los Angeles, calling it “peaceful demonstrations” in a post on X.

  3. California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for deploying the National Guard in Los Angeles without Gov. Newsom’s consent, labeling the move a violation of the 10th Amendment and federal law.

  4. However, footage from the ongoing Los Angeles riots shows rioters burning and spitting on an American flag while chanting “Burn it down” and calling for America’s destruction, including shouting expressions such as “F–k imperialism. F–k ICE. F–k Trump. F–k the system.”

  5. Ana Navarro accused President Trump of using the National Guard deployment in LA as a “trap” to provoke a violent reaction from Latinos. She made the claim during an episode of The View.

  6. Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, is offering legal aid to Mexican nationals recently arrested by ICE in Los Angeles, using the country’s network of U.S. consulates to provide support.

  7. Additionally, Sheinbaum fueled the ongoing LA riots by calling Mexican illegal aliens in the U.S. “heroes” and criticizing Trump’s immigration policies.

  8. Several leftist groups in Florida, including Occupy Florida and Resistance Support, are planning a “Rapid Response Protest” at Tampa City Hall on Monday in support of the L.A. riots.

  9. Over 300 people attended a protest in San Antonio against recent ICE mass deportation actions. The rally, organized by the Party for Socialism and Liberation, also mobilized activists to oppose immigration enforcement in LA.

  10. San Antonio police arrested Wilmer Vladimir Ortega Ruiz, an illegal alien, for shooting former Marine Jimmy Friesenhahn, 44, who was working as a security guard at El Patio Sports Bar. Friesenhahn, who tried to disarm Ruiz during the incident, remains hospitalized and is fighting for his life.

  12. Judge Shelley M. Richmond Joseph is facing a misconduct hearing for helping Jose Medina-Perez, a twice-deported Dominican national, evade ICE at a Boston courthouse in 2018. Medina-Perez, barred from reentering the U.S. until 2027, was in court on drug and fugitive charges when the incident occurred.

  13. DNC Chair Ken Martin privately expressed doubts about continuing as party leader, citing internal conflict sparked by Vice Chair David Hogg. In a leaked recording, a visibly emotional Martin voiced frustration over Hogg’s plan to spend $20 million targeting incumbent Democrats in safe-blue districts.
