Day 141
The fighter for freedom faces resistance
Today’s Big Story…
Speaking with reporters on the tarmac en route to Camp David, President Trump addressed the unruly protests in Los Angeles.
“We’re not going to let this happen to our country,” Trump said. “We’re not going to let this country be torn apart.”
Over the weekend, LA saw violent resistance against ICE raids, with over 40 arrests as rioters wielding Mexican flags clashed with federal agents, destroying vehicles, defacing buildings, and looting stores in response to immigration enforcement operations. President Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops by invoking the Insurrection Act of 1807 to stop the unrest.
He also announced on Truth Social that he has instructed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi to take the necessary steps to end the riots. While Trump confirmed he personally does not believe the situation qualifies as an “insurrection,” he warned that the government would deploy troops widely, including in cities like Chicago and New York, if the protests continue to spread.
Another Big Story…
President Trump made a dramatic entrance at UFC 316 in New Jersey over the weekend, walking ringside with UFC CEO Dana White to Kid Rock’s “American Badass,” as the crowd erupted in “USA!” chants.
He greeted celebrities like Mike Tyson and Joe Rogan, along with several fans in the audience during his high-profile arrival at the Prudential Center. Trump’s son Eric, daughter Ivanka, and her husband Jared Kushner, along with a few grandchildren, were also seen at the event, as well as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Acting New Jersey Attorney Alina Habba.
Notably, Elon Musk was missing from the entourage due to their recent feud. Following their fallout last week, reports have come to the surface highlighting the tensions of Musk’s time in the White House, including a circulating claim that the Tesla CEO was in a physical scuffle with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The Administration…
President Trump warned of “serious consequences” if Elon Musk funds Democrats opposing Republicans who back the GOP budget bill, telling reporters he has no plans to mend ties with Musk after their public feud.
Additionally, President Trump agreed to pursue a tariff deal in his first call with newly elected South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, a liberal who replaced impeached conservative Yoon Suk Yeol.
President Trump also dismissed concerns over the return of alleged Salvadoran gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia, calling him a “bad guy” and saying the courts will reveal how “horrible” he is.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said active-duty Marines at Camp Pendleton have been placed on high alert to assist National Guard troops in Los Angeles.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent accused Gov. Gavin Newsom of “threatening criminal tax evasion” after Newsom suggested California should cut off the $80 billion it pays beyond what it receives in federal funds, amid tensions with the Trump administration over possible funding cuts.
Filmmaker and playwright David Mamet told Fox News he shifted from being a “brain-dead liberal” to embracing constitutional conservatism after being “kicked out of the left” 25 years ago. He reflected on his political evolution and his support for President Trump.
A federal judge rejected a bid by three Corporation for Public Broadcasting board members fired by President Trump to be reinstated. Judge Randolph Moss ruled the board can still function with two members and remains legally independent from the president.
Over a dozen ICE officers and eight illegal aliens from a deportation flight to South Sudan are being held in a converted shipping container at a U.S. naval base in Djibouti, enduring extreme heat, smoke from burn pits, and potential rocket threats. The Trump administration says they must remain there until a court resolves the situation, which could take weeks.
Vice President…
JD Vance discussed Elon Musk’s online attacks and President Trump’s response during a podcast with comedian Theo Von. Vance called Musk’s endorsement of impeaching Trump and making him president “insane” and said the billionaire’s outburst was a “mistake,” though he defended Musk’s right to express his views.
Congress…
THE HOUSE
•Amid the Los Angeles riots, Rep. Maxine Waters caused a stir by visiting the Federal Building—now guarded by the National Guard—claiming she was there to check on union leader David Huerta, who was arrested for interfering with an ICE operation. She was denied entry.
•House Speaker Mike Johnson said that sending the Marine Corps to Los Angeles, as proposed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, would not be excessive.
•Additionally, congressional Republicans are preparing to advance over $9 billion in cuts to foreign aid and public broadcasting proposed by DOGE. Speaker Mike Johnson said the House aims vote on the cuts this week.
THE SENATE
•Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) criticized President Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles without the governor’s approval, calling it “hypocritical” compared to Trump’s handling of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
•Conversely, Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) said President Trump’s move to send National Guard troops to Los Angeles without the governor’s approval aims to “de-escalate” tensions.
The Resistance…
Elon Musk has quietly deleted posts accusing President Trump of appearing in unreleased Epstein files and supporting calls for his impeachment and replacement by VP JD Vance, rescinding claims made during their recent feud.
Amid his feud with the president, Musk doubled down on the idea of forming a new political party, posting a poll suggesting he’s turning away from the GOP. 80% of respondents voted in favor of a third party.
Amid the violent protests in Los Angeles over ICE arrests, Kamala Harris released a statement blaming the Trump administration and calling the demonstrations “overwhelmingly peaceful.” While rioters blocked freeways, clashed with police, and torched cars, Harris voiced support for the protests without condemning the violence.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office also downplayed the Los Angeles riots, with his communications director comparing them to rowdy Eagles playoff celebrations in Philadelphia. Newsom himself released a letter requesting that Trump pull back the National Guard deployment, attempting to lay blame for the riots on the president.
ABC News has suspended senior correspondent Terry Moran after he posted and quickly deleted a late-night X post calling Trump aide Stephen Miller a “world-class hater,” along with other vile insults.
"60 Minutes" correspondent Scott Pelley told CNN that a settlement in Trump’s lawsuit against CBS and Paramount would be “very damaging” to the companies' reputations.
Former CNN host Don Lemon claimed President Trump may have "rigged" his second presidential win, saying “something was off” during the election. The claim came on an episode of The Don Lemon Show, featuring notorious Trump-hater Kathy Griffin as a guest.
A federal judge ruled in favor of the city of Denver, blocking the Trump administration’s attempt to withhold $4 billion in transportation grants, calling the funding conditions unlawful and politically motivated.
After winning the French Open, tennis star Coco Gauff became the first American woman in a decade to claim the title. Asked about representing the U.S., she called the aftermath of Trump’s re-election a "down period."
Olympic gymnast Simone Biles is facing backlash after athlete-turned-activist for women’s sports, Riley Gaines, resurfaced a 2017 tweet in their ongoing feud. In the old post, Biles wrote: “ahhhh good thing guys don’t compete against girls or he’d take all the gold medals!!”
A transgender softball pitcher in Minnesota sparked national controversy after leading Champlin Park High to a state title, defying President Trump’s executive order banning male-born athletes from women’s sports. The White House responded that Trump is committed to protecting women’s sports and that violators of federal law will be held accountable.
