Today’s Big Story…
It’s a tough week for the Make America Great Again movement, as a unique friendship has spiraled downward into a very public feud: Trump vs. Musk.
The rift between the former DOGE leader and the president reached a breaking point when reporters asked Trump if Musk’s opposition to the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB) could affect its chances in the Senate. Trump expressed disappointment in Musk, saying, “I’ve always liked Elon, and I was very surprised. He hasn’t said anything about me that’s bad. I’d rather have him criticize me than the bill because the bill is incredible. I’m very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill. He never had a problem until right after he left.”
As Trump criticized Musk from the Oval Office, things truly escalated when Musk responded in real time on X, denying he had seen the bill in advance. He then posted a poll on X proposing the creation of a new political party. This prompted a volley of social media insults between Musk on X and Trump on Truth Social: Trump claimed Musk was upset about the elimination of the EV mandates; Musk called Trump a liar; Trump then proposed ending Musk’s government contracts; Musk countered by retweeting a post calling for the president’s impeachment.
But then, the real bombshell came, which likely killed any chance of mending their feud: Musk tweeted the accusation that the reason the DOJ has not publicly released the Jeffrey Epstein files is because President Trump is in them, adding: “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
It only got uglier from there. Musk called out top Republicans such as House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Leader John Thune over their support for the OBBB, while siding with Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Thomas Massie. Musk also grew heated over Trump’s claim that he would have won the 2024 election without his support, and claimed Trump will be forgotten about in four years, while he himself will be relevant for the next 40 years. He also claimed Trump’s tariffs will spark a year-end recession.
Many are lamenting it’s a sad day for America, but many are also trying to make light of the fallout between the president and SpaceX CEO through the sharing of memes. Still, the Republicans are in for a bumpy summer and an even bumpier midterm season if their friendship cannot be salvaged.
Time to drop the really big bomb:
@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.
Have a nice day, DJT!

The Administration…
Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon urged the president to investigate Elon Musk’s immigration status and consider deporting him after their falling out. He also suggested the Trump administration seize control of Musk’s company, SpaceX.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields claimed Elon Musk’s opposition to Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill stems from loyalty to his companies, not a break with Trump’s agenda.
The Trump administration has shut down the TSA’s Quiet Skies program, which tracked U.S. travelers, citing concerns it was “weaponized” under Biden. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said it cost $200 million annually without stopping a single terrorist attack.
President Trump announced he spoke with Chinese leader Xi Jinping about trade and said their teams will meet soon for further talks. He added that Xi invited him to China, and he extended an invitation to Xi to visit Washington.
President Trump also issued an executive order banning foreign nationals from studying at Harvard, citing national security concerns. The order suspends the school’s student visa program.
The U.S. announced sanctions on four International Criminal Court judges over what it called “illegitimate actions” against the U.S. and Israel. The move follows ICC investigations of U.S. personnel in Afghanistan and arrest warrants for Israeli officials.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino criticized former Director James Comey for the “mess” he left behind and his continued attacks on new leadership. Bongino said a hidden box of Comey-era evidence was recently uncovered and called it ironic, given Comey’s criticism of him.
Bongino also emphasized to Fox News’ Sean Hannity that the Epstein file shows no evidence of anything other than suicide, despite ongoing conspiracy theories.
Interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba teamed up with Operation Apex Hammer, a month-long New Jersey crackdown on violent crime. The effort targeted gang members and fugitives with felony warrants, including MS-13, Tren de Aragua, Sex Money Murder-Bloods, and Rolling 60’s Crips.
Tougher border enforcement, mass deportations, and increased ICE worksite raids likely led to a $250 million drop in remittances to Mexico in April—the largest decline in 12 years.
SCOTUS ruled unanimously that Mexico cannot sue U.S. gun makers over cartel violence. Justice Elena Kagan wrote U.S. law shields gun manufacturers from liability and Mexico failed to show they aided illegal gun sales.
SCOTUS also unanimously ruled that Wisconsin wrongly denied a tax exemption to a Catholic Charities chapter, saying the state violated the First Amendment and discriminated against the religious group.
Trump met with Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany, in the Oval Office. The European leader gave Trump a copy of his grandfather’s birth certificate from 1869, which was issued in the town of Kallstadt.
Vice President…
JD Vance, once a strong defender of Elon Musk, reacted to Musk’s split with Trump on X by posting a photo of himself sitting next to podcaster Theo Von, and jokingly wrote: "Slow news day, what are we even going to talk about?”
Congress…
THE HOUSE
•Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, said she would have opposed it had she known it included a provision blocking state regulation of AI for ten years.
•House Oversight Republicans blocked a surprise Democratic effort to subpoena Elon Musk over his brief role in the Trump administration. Democrats argued his short tenure warranted scrutiny.
•However, House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY) subpoenaed former White House doctor Kevin O’Connor as part of his investigation into President Biden’s mental fitness.
•Reps. Nathaniel Moran (R-TX) and Randy Fine (R-FL) reintroduced the Visa Overstays Penalties Act to crack down on illegal visa overstays. The bill aims to close immigration loopholes and enforce accountability, calling rampant overstays incompatible with an America First immigration system.
THE SENATE
•Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) accused Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) of using Trump’s agenda to quietly add $150 billion in military spending to the national debt.
•Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) said the Senate Agriculture Committee plans to release its portion of Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” next Tuesday. The panel oversees SNAP, and some Republicans are concerned about a proposal shifting more of its cost to states.
•Senate Republicans blocked a Democratic resolution opposing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s order to remove Harvey Milk’s name from a Navy ship. Sen. Adam Schiff’s attempt to pass it by unanimous consent was stopped by Sen. Ted Budd.
The Resistance…
Billionaire Jared Isaacman suggested his removal from consideration as Trump’s NASA chief may have been intended to punish Elon Musk, who is a close ally of Isaacman. Trump officials claim it was due to Isaacman’s former Democratic associations.
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned that Vladimir Putin is growing more “desperate” to destroy Ukraine.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu appeared to compare ICE agents to extremist groups such as neo-Nazis, saying, “I don’t know of any police department that routinely wears masks. We know other groups that do—NSC-131 routinely wears masks.”
A Guatemalan man deported to Mexico who claimed to express fear of persecution was flown back to the U.S. by court order.
U.S. District Judge James Boasberg ruled that non-citizens deported to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador must be allowed to seek habeas relief and challenge their alleged gang status. The decision comes amid a legal battle over Trump’s use of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act.
Mexican drug cartels are receiving support from China to expand their operations. This week, border agents seized 50,000 kilos of meth-making chemicals sent from China to the Sinaloa Cartel, while the Treasury Department says Chinese entities also help launder cartel profits.
A former NSA analyst warned that China is placing equipment in key locations that could disrupt U.S. commerce, following the discovery of hidden communication devices in Chinese solar power inverters not listed in official documents.
Tarek Bazrouk, charged with three federal hate crimes against Jews, allegedly had ties to Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigades. Federal documents claim he was part of a chat group receiving updates from the group’s spokesperson, Abu Obeida.
