Today’s Big Story…

Elon Musk, who recently ended his tenure with DOGE as a special government employee, sent shockwaves into the political world by condemning President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill and shaming the GOP for pushing it through the House.

Several Senate Republicans, including Sen. Rand Paul, are refusing to back the current budget bill, frustrating President Trump. Elon Musk has now weighed in, voicing his disapproval in a post on X: “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Musk then added the following warning: “It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden America citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.”

The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX received responses of agreement from Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), as well as a foreboding remark from Gen. Mike Flynn, who wrote: “It will not get better. The hogs are still at the trough and will refuse to move away from it. There are not enough honest people in Congress who are willing to stand up for the harder right thing even at this stage of our monumental national debt.”

Another Big Story…

Meanwhile, a troubling revelation has come to light about the Big Beautiful Bill regarding regulation of artificial intelligence, with some calling it a violation of state rights.

A new proposal in the bill seeks a 10-year ban on state laws regulating AI systems, including current and future rules. Several lawmakers and tech industry leaders support the measure, emphasizing the need for a unified federal framework to replace state-level regulations and claiming that varying state laws create challenges for tech companies trying to innovate nationwide.

However, other lawmakers and tech watchdogs worry that total federal control over AI regulations could compromise AI safety. A group of 260 state lawmakers sent a letter to Congress, warning that the moratorium would disrupt state efforts to address AI’s generational impact. Some also warned that the proposal to integrate AI into all federal databases will usher in a new era of government: AI-authoritarianism.

The Administration…

  • The White House asked Congress to approve a $9.4 billion rescissions package, mainly targeting foreign aid. The proposal would cut funds from USAID, NPR, PBS, and reflect recommendations from the DOGE. It needs a simple majority in both chambers, allowing Republicans to pass it without Democratic support.

  • The White House also launched a website allowing Americans to calculate their personal savings under the proposed “big beautiful bill.”

  • The U.S. has a set deadline today for trading partners, who must submit new deal proposals to avoid higher tariffs, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed.

  • President Trump’s Justice Department is reviewing pardons issued by former President Biden, amid concerns over his use of an AutoPen and his mental state in his final months. Pardon Attorney Ed Martin is examining pardons granted during Biden’s last weeks, though specific cases under review remain unknown.

  • Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the Navy to rename an oil ship previously named after controversial gay rights activist Harvey Milk, a decision made at the start of Pride Month.

  • The Army announced it has met its 2025 recruiting goal of 61,000 active-duty soldiers—four months early. The 10% increase over last year’s target reflects what the Army calls a renewed sense of patriotism and purpose among young Americans.

  • Border czar Tom Homan warned that he’s “convinced” a major terrorist attack is inevitable due to former President Biden’s border policies. He said a 9/11-style attack by illegal aliens “is coming.”

  • Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet, a vocal supporter of President Trump, appeared on Bill Maher’s podcast. Mamet called him “the best president since Abraham Lincoln,” and defended Trump on topics including the 2020 election, media coverage, and the events of January 6.

  • Nearly six months into his second term, President Trump’s new portrait was unveiled on the White House website.

Vice President…

JD Vance recently held a private, closed-door meeting with journalist Laura Loomer at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. While the meeting’s content remains undisclosed, Loomer did not meet with President Trump and has since left the White House. Her previous visit in April sparked the firing of several National Security Council staffers and the NSA’s director and deputy director, whom she had labeled disloyal.

Congress…

THE HOUSE

The House Freedom Caucus is urging GOP appropriators to adopt spending cuts proposed by DOGE in the upcoming 2026 funding bills. In a letter to Reps. Tom Cole (R-OK) and Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), they called for legislation aligned with Trump’s budget and DOGE recommendations.

Republican lawmakers are pushing to defund PBS after Sesame Street posted a Pride Month message featuring rainbow-colored puppets. Reps. Mary Miller (R-IL) and Andy Biggs (R-AZ) condemned the post, accusing PBS of using taxpayer money to promote inappropriate content to children.

Former MLB player Kevin Youkilis criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for her response to the recent attack on Jewish protesters in Boulder, calling her statement inadequate and accusing her of not taking real action against rising antisemitism.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) said she plans to launch an impeachment inquiry into President Trump if she becomes chair of the House Oversight Committee.

THE SENATE

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is refusing to support the 1,116-page budget bill, citing concerns over raising the debt limit. In response, President Trump slammed Paul, urging the Senate to pass the House-approved “Big Beautiful Bill” despite opposition from some Republicans.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) also criticized the megabill advancing President Trump’s tax and spending agenda and voiced support for tech billionaire Elon Musk’s recent remarks against it.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) released a report with 130 accusations, claiming Elon Musk used his role as a special government employee under Trump to profit personally.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) clashed with a legal professor over the high number of nationwide injunctions issued against the Trump administration. At the Senate Judiciary hearing, he showed a graph comparing the sharp rise in such rulings to past presidents.

The Resistance…

  1. Conservatives are raising concerns over Rosie Rios, a Biden appointee and former Obama-era U.S. treasurer, who is leading the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission planning the 250th birthday celebration. Critics point to past comments where Rios said, “Mexico is my country.

  2. Michael Cohen, former attorney for President Trump and a convict, predicts Trump will target Elon Musk’s wealth now that the Tesla CEO’s role as a special government employee has ended.

  3. A federal judge blocked President Trump’s order to end taxpayer-funded transgender procedures for inmates. Judge Royce Lamberth granted class-action status to an ACLU lawsuit representing over 1,000 federal prisoners receiving taxpayer-funded clothing, hormones, and related services.

  4. Federal authorities have arrested the wife and five children of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the Egyptian national charged in Sunday’s anti-Semitic terror attack in Boulder, Colorado.

  5. Anthony Thomas Reyes, 23, was arrested after trying to jump the wall at Mar-a-Lago, telling authorities he wanted to “spread the gospel” to President Trump and marry his teenage granddaughter, Kai. Reyes had previously been arrested for a similar attempt over the New Year’s holiday.

  6. Concern over China’s grip on critical minerals intensified as global automakers, including German companies, warned that China’s export limits on rare earth materials could cause production delays and disruptions. The warnings follow similar concerns raised by an Indian EV manufacturer last week.

  7. Two Chinese nationals have been charged with allegedly smuggling a “dangerous biological pathogen” into the U.S. to conduct research at a University of Michigan lab, posing a potential threat to the nation's food supply.

  8. An undercover video shows a North Carolina university administrator admitting DEI efforts are ongoing despite state and federal pushback. In response, the school has cut ties with the employee.

  9. Federal agents raided a Minneapolis taco restaurant as part of a drug and money laundering investigation, sparking street chaos and protests. Despite the warrant, activists flooded the area in response.

  10. The DNC parked a food truck outside RNC headquarters in D.C. to mock Trump’s tariff policies, using the acronym TACO for “Trump Always Chickens Out.” The stunt drew widespread ridicule.

  11. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (D) filed a lawsuit against interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba over his arrest last month outside an ICE facility. The suit accuses Habba of false arrest, malicious prosecution, and defamation, claiming she acted as a political operative beyond her official duties.

  12. Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested and charged with obstruction after allegedly helping an illegal alien evade federal agents at a Milwaukee courthouse by directing him out of a non-public exit. Released surveillance footage shows her, the agents, and the illegal man, who was later caught outside after a brief chase.

  13. The Washington Post is facing backlash from the White House and online critics for calling the drop in fentanyl crossings “mysterious,” with many labeling the report as “pathetic.”

  14. CNN analyst Harry Enten expressed surprise over new polling showing Democrats still trailing Republicans on economic issues. Despite market volatility and Trump’s controversial tariff plan, Enten noted Democrats have failed to close the gap on what voters consider a top concern.
