Day 129
Too little too late? Or better late than never?
Today’s Big Story…
The Trump administration announced that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will no longer recommend the COVID-19 vaccine for healthy children and pregnant women.
The change follows last week’s announcement that COVID-19 booster access will be limited to seniors 65 and older and other high-risk groups. Previously recommended for everyone over six months old, the vaccine will now require stricter testing before being advised for the general population.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized last year’s push by the Biden administration to give healthy children another COVID shot, saying it lacked supporting data. FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary echoed the concern, stating there's no current evidence healthy kids need the vaccine and noted most countries no longer recommend it for children. Kennedy, Makary, and NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya have consistently questioned giving the vaccine to low-risk groups.
Today, the COVID vaccine for healthy children and healthy pregnant women has been removed from @CDCgov recommended immunization schedule. Bottom line: it’s common sense and it’s good science. We are now one step closer to realizing @POTUS’s promise to Make America Healthy Again.

Another Big Story…
President Trump warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin is “playing with fire,” claiming on Truth Social that if not for him, “really bad things” would have already happened to Russia.
The Trump administration appears to be shifting its stance toward the Kremlin following a deadly Russian attack on Ukraine over the weekend that killed at least 12 people and hit over 30 cities. The assault occurred alongside the largest prisoner swap of the war, with 1,000 prisoners exchanged.
Trump had announced the swap as a major diplomatic breakthrough, resulting from the first U.S.-brokered direct talks between Russia and Ukraine. The move was part of Trump’s push to fulfill his campaign promise to quickly end the war. However, plans for a Vatican-hosted ceasefire meeting between Putin and Zelensky have now collapsed.

The Administration…
The Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to lift a nationwide injunction blocking its effort to quickly deport illegal aliens to third-party countries. This follows a ruling by Judge Brian Murphy that halted the policy.
The Trump administration is ramping up efforts to cut off Mexican drug cartels’ funding, targeting the estimated $18–$39 billion they receive annually through cash transfers and laundering schemes. A Treasury official said designating some cartels as foreign terrorist groups allows the government to freeze assets and pursue tougher prosecutions.
Additionally, President Trump has declared May 28 as a day to celebrate the 101st anniversary of the U.S. Border Patrol.
President Trump revealed Canada’s share in the proposed $175 billion Golden Dome missile defense system would cost $61 billion. Prime Minister Mark Carney recently confirmed Canada is considering investing in the project.
The White House announced that President Trump plans to pardon Julie and Todd Chrisley, stars of the reality show Chrisley Knows Best. In 2022, the couple was convicted of defrauding banks out of over $30 million in loans and found guilty of tax evasion.
California’s state track championship is drawing political tension after President Trump threatened to cut funding and send authorities if a trans-identifying athlete competes in the girls’ category. In response, the state adjusted its rules to let biologically female athletes who narrowly missed qualifying compete for the title.
A Baptist refugee group in North Carolina is housing newly arrived white South African refugees with furnished apartments. Their arrival followed the exit of an Episcopal group from a taxpayer-funded program after the Trump administration accepted 59 Afrikaners, sparking backlash from liberal circles and the Episcopal Church.
Elon Musk said he’s “disappointed” by the cost of President Trump’s “one big, beautiful bill,” passed by House Republicans last week. In a CBS interview, he criticized the bill for increasing the deficit and undercutting the work of the DOGE team.
The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index rose sharply in May to 98.0, up from 85.7 in April—the biggest monthly gain in four years. The jump exceeded all forecasts, with economists expecting a consensus of 87.3. The surge reflects growing optimism about the economy and job market.
General Motors will invest $888 million in its Tonawanda Propulsion plant to build the next generation of V-8 engines for full-size trucks and SUVs.
In a surprising turn, President Trump did indeed approve a covert mission to free an American held by Venezuela. Richard Grenell, Trump’s special envoy for Special Missions, chartered a private jet to Antigua, where he met Venezuelan officials and secured the release of Joe St. Clair, a 33-year-old U.S. military veteran imprisoned for six months. Though early reports suggested Grenell acted without authorization, sources close to the White House revealed that Trump personally approved the mission and directed Grenell to keep it quiet, even from senior officials, including State Secretary Marco Rubio.
Vice President…
JD Vance gave the keynote speech at a major three-day Bitcoin conference in Las Vegas, attended by top crypto figures and White House officials.
Congress…
THE HOUSE
•Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis criticized Congress for failing to pass into law the budget cuts proposed by DOGE. The comments came after former nuclear scientist Matt Van Swol posted that DOGE is widely popular, with 73% of Americans supporting cuts to government waste, and accused both parties of blocking progress. Elon Musk, who led the DOGE initiative, replied, “Did my best.” DeSantis responded, praising Musk for enduring attacks to push the effort, calling Congress’s refusal to act a betrayal of voters. Greene added, “We should have been voting on DOGE cuts every single week.”
•MTG also recently stated that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) is part of the “deep state resistance” blocking President Trump’s agenda, comparing it to “far-left” judges who’ve halted legal deportations.
•Former Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) revealed he urged Govs. JB Pritzker and Gretchen Whitmer to run against Biden in 2024 before launching his own campaign. Writing in The Free Press, Phillips responded to reports by CNN and Axios alleging Biden’s team worked to hide signs of his aging from the public.
•Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX), head of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, warned that if Democrats regain the House in 2026, they will investigate Elon Musk, a senior advisor to President Trump.
THE SENATE
•President Trump gave Senate Republicans the green light to revise the House-passed “big, beautiful bill,” saying they can “make the changes they want,” even if some are “fairly significant.”
•Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama has announced his run for governor. He aims to succeed Gov. Kay Ivey, who is term-limited and will leave office after serving since 2017.
•Sen. Dave McCormick (R-Pa.) said the U.S. will hold a golden share in Nippon Steel’s purchase of U.S. Steel, giving it influence over key decisions. The Trump-backed deal with the Japanese company includes a $2.4 billion investment in Pittsburgh operations.
The Resistance…

The Supreme Court declined to hear a case challenging a school district's decision to bar a student from wearing a T-shirt that said, “There are only two genders.”
The Trump administration is suing North Carolina and its State Board of Elections for failing to keep accurate voter rolls. The DOJ alleges the state violated the Help America Vote Act by allowing voter registration without requiring key identification, increasing the risk of fraud.
NPR is suing the Trump administration, claiming his executive order cutting public broadcasting funds violates its First Amendment rights.
Broadway star Patti LuPone, a vocal critic of President Trump, told The New Yorker that the Kennedy Center—now under Trump’s oversight—should be “blown up,” repeating the remark multiple times during her interview.
Harvard Business School has fired Professor Francesca Gino after an investigation found she faked data in multiple studies on dishonesty. Gino allegedly manipulated findings in four studies to support her theories. The firing comes as the Trump administration is reportedly planning to urge federal agencies to cancel all contracts with Harvard.
A spokesperson for First Lady Melania Trump rejected the rumor that President Trump’s dispute with Harvard is related to Barron Trump being denied admission, calling the claim “completely false.”
A watchdog group has accused Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a top Virginia public high school, of giving its STEM curriculum to groups tied to the Chinese Communist Party. At the same time, those groups donated $3.6 million to the school’s charity.
