Day 127
Honoring the fallen, saving the future
Today’s Big Story…
President Trump is set to mark Memorial Day with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, honoring fallen service members.
The Cemetery is the resting place of over 400,000 soldiers and military personnel. In a proclamation over the weekend, Trump called on officials and citizens to fly flags at half-staff for today and join in prayer for peace.
Trump’s proclamation reads: "Memorial Day is a sacred day of remembrance, reverence, and gratitude for the brave patriots who have laid down their lives in service to our great Nation. Throughout our history, brave men and women have been called to defend the cause of liberty on foreign shores in defense of our homeland. Their noble sacrifices are marked by flag-draped coffins and the silent sorrows of those left behind. We must never forget those who have given everything for our country. We are eternally indebted to our Nation’s fallen heroes. On this solemn day, as we honor their sacrifice, the First Lady and I ask all citizens to join us in prayer that Almighty God may comfort those who mourn, grant protection to all who serve, and bring blessed peace to the world."
Another Big Story…
President Trump said he was "not happy" with Russia's large strike on Ukraine yesterday afternoon, accusing Putin of "killing a lot of people."
"I'm not happy with what Putin is doing," Trump told reporters at Morristown Airport in New Jersey. "He's killing a lot of people, and I don't know what the hell happened to Putin. I've known him a long time, always gotten along with him, but he's sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don't like it at all… I don't like what Putin is doing. Not even a little bit. He's killing people. And something happened to this guy."
Trump’s remarks followed Russia’s largest aerial assault of the war, with 298 drones and 69 missiles launched at Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv. At least 12 people were killed and dozens were injured. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy urged an international response in a Telegram post.

President Trump said that U.S. negotiators had "very good" talks with Iran over the weekend in pursuit of a deal to stop Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.
President Trump also agreed to delay a proposed 50% tariff on EU imports, originally set for June 1. In a Truth Social post, he said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen requested the extension until July 9.
The Trump administration sent a team of five State Department diplomats to the UK to meet with pro-life activists arrested for silently praying outside abortion clinics, amid rising concerns over Britain’s strict speech laws.
Elon Musk said he’ll scale back his role at DOGE, reducing his near-daily involvement to about one day a week. As a special government employee limited to 130 days a year, Musk noted DOGE has saved $160 billion through layoffs and canceled contracts.
Amid the Trump administration’s rollback of DEI efforts, many U.S. corporations are pulling back from Pride events, leaving organizers scrambling for funding as longtime sponsors scale down support.
The FBI arrested two Pakistani immigration lawyers in Texas, uncovering a smuggling network using white-collar fraud to bring in illegal aliens.

A stunning “Freedom Flyover” featuring seven U.S. Air Force fighter and bomber jets wowed crowds at the Miami Beach Hyundai Air and Sea Show. Led by the B-2 stealth bomber, the formation included the B-1B, B-52H, F-22, F-15C, F-16C, and A-10.

Vice President…
JD Vance launched a controversial tweet over the weekend about a series of issues in universities, including a reproducibility crisis in scientific research, bureaucratic hurdles to commercializing research, politically homogeneous voting patterns among professors, and racial discrimination in violation of civil rights laws. He suggested universities can either collaborate with the Trump administration to reform these problems or resist, potentially becoming irrelevant by rejecting democratic accountability.
Congress…
THE HOUSE
•Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) claimed on CBS’s Face the Nation that Trump’s spending bill fails to tackle the deficit or meet Americans’ key budget priorities. He claimed it doesn’t tax the wealthy more, doesn’t reduce the spiraling deficit, and doesn’t simplify the tax code, calling it a failure.
•House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) defended the “big, beautiful bill,” calling it the largest spending cut in history and rejecting claims it would increase U.S. spending. This was in response to Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who had criticized the bill’s cuts as “wimpy and anemic.”
•House Intelligence Chair Rick Crawford (R-AR) said that countering China’s growing influence in Latin America is the U.S.’s top foreign challenge. He warned that while the U.S. was focused elsewhere, China built ties in the region through trade, infrastructure, and diplomacy.
•Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) claimed on MSNBC that Democrats will retake the majority in 2026 and plan to investigate President Trump and his family.
THE SENATE
•Sen. Raphael Warnock, a Georgia Democrat known for praising Marxism and wealth redistribution, has doubled his net worth from just over $1 million in 2020 to up to $2.2 million in 2024. His campaign was strongly supported by billionaire George Soros.
•Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) said he’s “furious” the Democratic Party lost twice to Trump and believes the party’s national image is damaged. Recent polls back that up showing a -10% favorability rating and Pew finding 60% of voters view Democrats unfavorably.
•Senators Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Eric Schmitt (R-MO) are demanding an investigation into $4.7 trillion in untraceable Treasury payments uncovered by the DOGE. Around 500,000 such payments are made annually.
•Schmitt also said on “Sunday Morning Futures” he expects the “big, beautiful” budget bill to pass the Senate, but noted the House version still needs work.
The Resistance…
DNC Vice Chair David Hogg praised Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) for her bold style during an appearance on "The Breakfast Club." Both have recently faced criticism for pushing to restructure the Democratic Party.
Former Obama aide Jon Lovett admitted on Jon Stewart’s podcast that he kept quiet about Biden’s health decline during the 2024 campaign because he wanted him “to f—— win.”
According to a new book by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, former Vice President Kamala Harris was furious after a video went viral in September 2024 showing former President Biden briefly wearing a Trump 2024 hat at a Pennsylvania fire station.
A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to return a third deported man, stating the removal likely “lacked any semblance of due process.” The administration deported the Guatemalan man, identified in court records as O.C.G., to Mexico.
Dr. Mehmet Oz says billions in taxpayer money are being wasted through Medicaid fraud, calling it a major example of government abuse and citing about $14 billion in improper dual-state enrollments alone.
Joseph Neumeyer, a 28-year-old U.S. and German citizen, was charged with attempting to firebomb the U.S. Embassy office in Tel Aviv using Molotov cocktails.
Corey Cunningham, a devout Christian from Iowa, reached a settlement with Eaton Corp after claiming he was fired in August 2023 for wearing Bible verse t-shirts during the company's LGBTQ Pride Month celebration.

LAMendez: ”Thank you so much for doing what you do with this newsletter and for acknowledging the true meaning of Memorial Day.”
Slamkin48: “DML, you always tell it like it is. My brother served in Vietnam, lost his hearing and his PTSD is a 100%. Those men came home to protesting and no gratitude. Shame on American people! Reading about pay sickens me. Im a Senior and all those years I paid into SS, I get a measly amount, 76 and have to still work.”
Pdudrick: “Thank you for emphasizing the true meaning of Memorial Day and how poorly our service members are paid for their service. Our military and their families sacrifice a lot to serve our country. God bless all who have served and are serving. And God bless you for all you do.”
RODonnell53: “Our military deserve more pay! It’s time to take the waste and fraud money DOGE found and give them a raise! That would be thanking them for their service!”
LouisePieri: “I agree about military pay, it should be increased. The waste and fraud that DOGE found is disgraceful. Our military should be top priority. Thank God we have men and women who are willing to serve!”
