Day 125
The unauthorized mission to VZ
Today’s Big Story…
Richard Grenell, Trump’s envoy to Venezuela, is facing backlash for an unauthorized trip to Antigua to retrieve U.S. veteran Joseph St. Clair.
St. Clair, a 33-year-old who served four tours in Afghanistan, was arrested near the Venezuela-Colombia border in October 2024 while seeking PTSD treatment. He was later jailed in the notoriously harsh El Rodeo I prison and designated by the U.S. as wrongfully detained.
Sources say Grenell’s mission was intended to pressure the White House into renewing Chevron’s Venezuelan oil license, set to expire May 27. His unsanctioned trip and claim of a 60-day license extension conflicted with the administration’s decision to let the license lapse. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Republican lawmakers, particularly from Miami, opposed any extension, warning it would undermine efforts to isolate Maduro and risk losing legislative backing.
Grenell maintained that Maduro’s cooperation in releasing St. Clair warranted an extension to curb China’s growing influence in Venezuela. But officials saw it as a concession to the regime. Regardless, the administration will ultimately allow the license to expire on May 27, reaffirming its strategy of economic pressure on Maduro.
Another Big Story…
President Trump threatened new tariffs on Apple and the European Union over what he called unfair trade practices.
In two Truth Social posts, he insisted products sold in the U.S. should be made in the U.S., directing a sharp warning at Apple first: “I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else. If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S. Thank your for your attention to this matter!”
Next, Trump launched a post against the EU, writing: “The European Union, which was formed for the primary purpose of taking advantage of the United States on TRADE, has been very difficult to deal with. Their powerful Trade Barriers, Vat Taxes, ridiculous Corporate Penalties, Non-Monetary Trade Barriers, Monetary Manipulations, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against Americans Companies, and more, have led to a Trade Deficit with the U.S. of more than $250,000,000 a year, a number which is totally unacceptable. Our discussions with them are going nowhere! Therefore, I am recommending a straight 50% Tariff on the European Union, starting on June 1, 2025. There is no Tariff if the product is built or manufactured in the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Weekend Reports
Thanks to President Trump’s negotiation, U.S. Steel will no longer be sold to a foreign buyer. Instead, it will enter a partnership with Japan’s Nippon Steel while remaining based in the U.S. The decision came after a Friday call between Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
DOGE has cut several NEH grants deemed wasteful, saving $163 million. The canceled projects include $350,000 for interactive gay travel guides, $350,000 for a Spanish version of Homosaurus.org, and $75,000 to study livestreaming and LGBTQ+ communities. Moving forward, NEH grants will focus on merit-based, non-DEI, pro-America initiatives.
President Trump’s “one big, beautiful bill” budget plan would cut Medicaid funding for transgender treatments, ending coverage for puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries if passed by the Senate.
The U.S. Army will launch a new Army Fitness Test on June 1, replacing the current ACFT. Designed to better match modern combat demands, the AFT will roll out in phases, with updated scoring standards for 21 combat military roles.
The father of terror suspect Elias Rodriguez, accused of killing two Israeli Embassy staffers at the Capital Jewish Museum, was invited to President Trump’s joint address in March by Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García (D-Ill.). García’s office confirmed Eric Rodriguez attended as their guest.
A judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to cancel Harvard’s student visa program after the university filed a lawsuit. Judge Allison Burroughs, an Obama appointee, granted a restraining order to keep the policy on hold during the legal process.
Released footage appears to show Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan confronting ICE agents before directing an illegal alien, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, out a private courthouse exit. Flores-Ruiz, a Mexican national, was facing three domestic battery charges. The video, obtained through an open records request, is now part of the case against Dugan, who has been indicted.
Journalists Catherine Herridge and Michael Shellenberger revealed that the Biden administration labeled Americans who opposed COVID-19 mandates as “Domestic Violent Extremists.” Newly declassified documents show this designation allowed federal agencies to investigate vaccine and mask skeptics, raising concerns about First Amendment violations.
A new book claims Joe Biden had difficulty filming campaign videos during the 2024 race due to declining health. In one instance, a planned town hall-style ad shoot in a high school gym was scrapped after Biden struggled to answer audience questions.
Evangelical MAGA preacher Mario Murillo warned of a looming “great event” that he claims will make atheists and non-supernatural-believing churches obsolete. Known for backing Trump and calling Kamala Harris’ campaign “demonic,” he made the prediction during his Living Proof Crusade in Texas.
