Day 121
Trump calls out Kamala, and has a phone call with Putin
Today’s Big Story…
President Trump criticized Kamala Harris on Truth Social, calling for an investigation into whether she paid celebrities for endorsements during the 2024 campaign.
After losing to Trump, Kamala Harris’s campaign reportedly exhausted its donations and ended up $20 million in debt. November reports cited large payments to celebrities like Oprah and Beyoncé for rally appearances and heavy spending for a left-leaning podcast appearance. Oprah denied taking a personal fee, though her company was paid $1 million. While rumors claimed Beyoncé got $11 million, records show her production company received $165,000.
In his Truth Social post, Trump questioned how much Bruce Springsteen was paid for what he called a “poor performance” and asked why Springsteen accepted the money if he genuinely supported Harris. Trump claimed the payments were a tactic to inflate her small crowds and insisted, “It’s not legal!”
Another Big Story…
President Trump announced that peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are moving forward after a two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump, who campaigned on a promise to help end the war, shared the update on Truth Social, saying the conversation went “very well.”
He stated that both countries will begin negotiations for a ceasefire and, ultimately, an end to the war. Trump emphasized that the terms will be decided by Russia and Ukraine directly. He described the call's tone as “excellent” and added that he would have said otherwise if that weren’t the case.
Trump also said Russia is eager to pursue large-scale trade with the U.S. once the war ends, calling the opportunity to create jobs and wealth “unlimited.” He added that Ukraine could benefit greatly through trade during its rebuilding process. Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are set to begin immediately, and Trump revealed that the Vatican, represented by the Pope, has expressed interest in hosting the talks.

The Administration…
President Trump reacted to Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis, calling it “very sad” but also questioning the timing, noting the cancer’s advanced stage. Trump also mentioned his own recent physical and cognitive tests, praising Walter Reed as “a fantastic hospital.”
The Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status for 350,000 Venezuelans, making them eligible for deportation. The decision pauses a lower court ruling that had preserved the protections. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was the sole dissenter.
President Trump awarded the first-ever “Medals of Sacrifice” to the families of three Florida officers killed in the line of duty last year after being struck by an SUV in November 2024.
President Trump signed the “Take It Down Act,” making the distribution of nonconsensual intimate images and deepfake porn a federal crime. The legislation was strongly backed by First Lady Melania Trump.
The Justice Department is reportedly preparing to settle with Ashli Babbitt’s family for $5 million over her death during the January 6 Capitol riot.
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is making major changes to the U.S. vaccine system. He’s ending COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for children and pregnant women and calling for stricter approval standards for new vaccines.
The Kennedy Center’s season lineup reflects a shift away from progressive programming, with no drag shows for kids and staff pushing back against past agendas.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated his support for nuclear talks with the U.S., stressing diplomacy over conflict.
Aid trucks entered Gaza for the first time in nearly three months as President Trump readies his U.S.-backed aid distribution plan. The previous convoy arrived on March 2, before Israel halted deliveries.
White House economic adviser Stephen Miran said Walmart and other companies will eventually pressure Chinese suppliers to absorb tariffs. While short-term price volatility is possible, he insisted the U.S. holds the leverage and China will ultimately bear the costs.
White House Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said the U.S. could be heading toward an economic “liftoff,” driven by upcoming trade deals, clarity on tax cuts, and strong job growth. He pointed to a surge in capital equipment investment and predicted second-half 2025 growth could exceed 4%, calling it the start of a “golden age” for the economy.
Moody's downgraded the USA credit rating, do you think they did this on purpose to hurt Trump now that the stock market has been doing great? I do.

Vice President…
JD Vance questioned whether Joe Biden was fit to serve during his presidency after news broke of Biden’s aggressive prostate cancer. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force Two after meeting Pope Leo XIV in Rome, Vance said he wishes Biden well and hopes for a full recovery.
"Whether the right time to have this conversation is now or at some point in the future, we really do need to be honest about whether the former president was capable of doing the job," Vance said. "You can separate the desire for him to have the right health outcome with the recognition that whether it was doctors or whether there were staffers around the former president ‒ I don't think he was able to do a good job for the American people."
Congress…
THE HOUSE
•In a rare late-night session Sunday, the House Budget Committee narrowly advanced President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” in a 17-16 vote, signaling a breakthrough for divided Republicans. The bill extends Trump’s tax cuts, increases border funding, and includes reforms to Medicaid and food aid.
•President Trump will attend a House GOP meeting today at the Capitol to help shape the party’s strategy for advancing the major reconciliation package tied to his agenda.
•Rep. LaMonica McIver has been charged by Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba for assaulting, impeding, and interfering with law enforcement officers during a confrontation at the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark. Habba said prosecutors initially tried to settle the issue without filing charges, but McIver refused to cooperate.
•In a letter led by Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA), House Republicans warned Attorney General Pam Bondi that illegal aliens are being recruited into criminal networks staging fake accidents to exploit the U.S. personal injury system. They urged the DOJ to take immediate action against the growing fraud industry.
THE SENATE
•Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer suggested DOGE may share blame for a Mexican navy tall ship crashing into the Brooklyn Bridge, killing two and injuring over a dozen. Schumer claimed a potential Coast Guard staffing issue tied to a DOGE hiring freeze, but the Coast Guard countered his claim and said its system was “fully functional during the incident.”
•Charles Kushner, a New Jersey real estate developer and Ivanka Trump’s father-in-law, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as ambassador to France and Monaco in a 51-45 vote. Kushner was previously pardoned by President Trump for 2005 convictions involving tax evasion and campaign finance violations.
•The Senate voted to advance the GENIUS Act, a bill to establish a regulatory framework for payment stablecoins. Sixteen Democrats joined all but two Republicans in ending debate and moving the legislation closer to final passage.
The Resistance…
After Joe Biden’s team announced that he has aggressive prostate cancer, which has spread to his bones, critics questioned how long ago the diagnosis was actually made. A photo of Biden, Jill Biden, and their cat was posted to his X account, drawing attention amid the news. See it here…
CNN analyst Brian Stelter called the timing of Biden’s cancer diagnosis announcement “extraordinary,” noting it came as criticism mounted over alleged efforts to hide his cognitive decline. The release coincides with a new book, Original Sin by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, which claims the media and Biden’s team worked to conceal his deteriorating mental health.
On ABC’s “The View,” the hosts criticized those politicizing Biden’s cancer diagnosis, then quickly shifted to blaming President Trump, injecting politics into the discussion themselves.
CBS News President Wendy McMahon abruptly announced her resignation, marking the latest twist in the network’s ongoing clash with President Trump.
Former FBI Director James Comey said on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that he had no regrets about his “86 47” social media post, calling it “clever” and an artistic expression of his political views.
In a video from a discussion recorded earlier at The 92nd Street Y, Hillary Clinton referred to most Republican women as “handmaidens to the patriarchy.” She made the remark when asked by interviewer Margaret Hoover what advice she’d give to the first female U.S. president.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that the Trump administration will allow a major offshore wind project for New York to proceed. The project was previously halted by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum over concerns about Biden-era reviews, but Hochul said she secured its continuation.
Worcester City Manager Eric Batista issued an executive order on May 16 banning local police and city agencies from cooperating with ICE. Batista’s order warns city staff not to assist in federal operations focused solely on civil immigration enforcement.
