Today’s Big Story…

President Trump began his high-profile Middle East trip with a lavish state visit to Saudi Arabia, marked by American exceptionalism, diplomacy, and big business.

Flanked by Arabian horses, Trump arrived at the Saudi Royal Court, accompanied by an entourage of American business leaders representing top sectors of the U.S. economy. Among the attendees at a grand luncheon with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman were Elon Musk and his brother Kimbal, as well as the CEOs of Google, OpenAI, Nvidia, Uber, BlackRock, Blackstone, and other major firms.

Trump used the occasion to announce a series of new agreements with Saudi Arabia, including expanded military cooperation and a $600 billion investment pledge into the U.S. economy—$142 billion of which is earmarked for defense. He also confirmed a $1.4 billion weapons sale to the UAE, where he is scheduled to visit later this week. In a keynote speech at a Riyadh investment forum, Trump praised nationalism, suggested Saudi Arabia may join the Abraham Accords, and issued a stern warning to Iran amid ongoing nuclear talks. They also had some fun and played the YMCA anthem to close out the event:

Additionally, in a surprise policy move, Trump stated he would lift U.S. sanctions on Syria following the fall of the Assad regime, framing it as a chance for the war-torn country to rebuild. He is expected to greet Syria’s new president, Ahmad al-Sharaa, before heading to Doha, Qatar.

In a lighter moment that captivated social media, a mobile McDonald’s food truck was spotted operating in Riyadh during Trump’s historic visit. The White House confirmed the fast-food installation was rolled out specifically to mark the president’s arrival.

Another Big Story…

The Trump administration announced it is ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghans in the U.S., citing improved conditions under Taliban rule.

The Department of Homeland Security, led by Secretary Kristi Noem, said Afghanistan's overall security and economic situation has improved enough that deporting Afghan nationals no longer poses a major safety risk. TPS was originally granted by the Biden administration following the U.S. withdrawal due to the country’s instability.

The Administration…

  • President Trump clarified that the $400 million Boeing 747 offered by Qatar will go to the Department of Defense, addressing concerns over the legality of accepting gifts from foreign powers. The White House stated the donation complies with all laws.

  • Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has fired National Intelligence Council leaders Mike Collins and Maria Langan-Riekhof, following whistleblower claims they were strongly anti-Trump. Gabbard also moved the council under the ODNI to prevent “politicization of intelligence.”

  • A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration can use the Alien Enemies Act to deport criminal illegal Venezuelan gang members, but must first provide adequate notice to allow due process and legal challenges.

  • A federal grand jury indicted Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan for allegedly helping an illegal alien evade arrest in her courtroom last month. The indictment accuses the 66-year-old judge of obstructing a federal agency and concealing the individual. The potential charges carry up to six years in prison and a $350,000 fine.

  • The Trump administration announced it is pulling another $450 million in federal grants from Harvard, following a previous $2 billion funding freeze. The Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism cited the university’s repeated failure to address racial discrimination and anti-Semitic harassment.

  • NCAA President Charlie Baker said he’s “up for anything” after President Trump proposed a commission to tackle key issues in college sports, particularly challenges related to name, image, and likeness. Baker welcomed the president’s support.

  • Turkey-based copper wire manufacturer Mega Metal will invest $34 million to build a 91,000-square-foot facility in Fairfield County, South Carolina—the company’s first U.S. operation. The plant will produce superfine electrolytic oxygen-free copper wire used in advanced technologies.

  • The April CPI report showed little impact from President Trump’s new 10% universal tariff and reciprocal duties on over 60 countries. Contrary to expectations, headline and core inflation both rose just 0.2% for the month. Year-over-year inflation slowed to 2.3%, the lowest since February 2021.

Vice President…

JD Vance gave congratulatory remarks to Special Envoy Steve Witkoff for arranging the release of Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander, commending him and the Trump team for securing him from Hamas’ hands.

Congress…

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said a deal on the SALT deduction cap is expected today, pending final calculations from the Joint Committee on Taxation. Both sides reported progress after a meeting yesterday.

Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) officially introduced a privileged resolution to impeach President Trump, triggering a mandatory House response within two legislative days. The resolution includes seven articles alleging obstruction of justice, abuse of power, corruption, and “tyranny.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced a hold on all Justice Department nominees in protest of President Trump’s expected acceptance of a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar as the next Air Force One. It’s Schumer’s first blanket hold as Democratic leader, amid Trump’s Middle East trip, which includes a stop in Qatar to announce an arms deal.

Iowa Republican Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst are demanding urgent reforms at the ATF, citing serious misconduct and abuse of power. They accuse agency supervisors of inflating salaries by ignoring federal rules and retaliating against whistleblowers—some of whom were later promoted under the Biden administration.

The Resistance…

  1. Chief Justice John Roberts claimed that the rule of law is “endangered,” cautioning against attacks on the judiciary. While he didn’t name names, the comments follow frequent criticism from President Trump and his allies over court rulings blocking his policies.

  2. Pete Buttigieg returned to Iowa for a speaking event, and the former transportation secretary referenced family life, infrastructure work in Cedar Rapids, and sported a beard. His speech strongly criticized President Trump and urged Democrats to clearly define their agenda and engage with opponents, hinting at a possible second White House bid.

  3. DHS is investigating California’s Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI) over concerns it may have illegally provided Social Security payments to illegal aliens. CAPI offers monthly cash aid to aged, blind, and disabled non-citizens ineligible for federal SSI, but the White House suspects some may have unlawfully received those federal benefits.

  4. Arlington County, Virginia, is moving to further limit police cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Democrat board members want to eliminate part of the county’s Trust Policy that allows local police to notify ICE when arresting illegal aliens.

  5. Over two dozen protesters were arrested for disrupting the House Energy and Commerce budget markup. Many, including individuals in wheelchairs, chanted “No cuts to Medicaid!” outside the Rayburn House Office Building. Capitol police arrested several who blocked the committee room entrance after repeated warnings.

  6. President Trump signed an executive order banning transgender athletes from female sports, but some states, like Pennsylvania, are defying it. At the SOL American Conference Championships, trans runner Luce Allen, formerly known as Sean, took first place in the 200-meter race, narrowly beating the top female competitor.

  7. On a recent episode of ABC’s The View, co-hosts voiced doubt over President Trump’s plan to lower prescription drug costs. Whoopi Goldberg criticized the proposal, arguing it focused more on political optics than meaningful reform.

  8. Microsoft plans to lay off about 6,000 employees, roughly 3% of its workforce.

  9. DNC Vice Chairman David Hogg confirmed the party is moving to fast-track his removal from the position.

  10. Video footage has been released of the 50 clergy members from Faith in N.J. and Faith in Action protesting outside Newark’s Delaney Hall ICE facility.

In Other News…

  1. In an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Louis Prevost, brother of Pope Leo XIV, said the new pope aims to lead with balance and avoid political extremes. He described Pope Leo as thoughtful and centrist. Watch here…
