Day 108
Trump hosts Canada's leader, teases big surprise
Today’s Big Story…
President Trump hosted newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House amid heightened tensions between the two nations.
Trump reiterated his long-standing desire for Canada to become the 51st U.S. state, telling reporters, “Never say never,” and citing past examples of seemingly impossible deals that eventually happened. Carney swiftly dismissed the idea, claiming Canada “won’t be for sale, ever.” Carney instead proposed working together, stating, “opportunity lies in partnership and what we can build together.”
While Trump acknowledged Canada's increased military investment and expressed a desire for “friendship” between the nations, Carney emphasized that cooperation on security, not absorption, was Canada’s focus. Trump has previously floated ideas of acquiring Greenland and even the Panama Canal for strategic reasons, but Carney clarified that Canada is not on the table.
Another Big Story…
President Trump has teased an upcoming "earth-shattering" announcement, emphasizing that it will not pertain to trade.
During the Oval Office meeting with Carney, Trump described the forthcoming news as "very, very big" and "extremely positive," though he refrained from providing specific details. The announcement is anticipated ahead of Trump's scheduled trip to the Middle East from May 13 to 16, where he plans to visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.
Thank you to President Trump for inviting me to the White House.
Our meeting today marks the beginning of a new relationship between Canada and the United States — based on respect, built on common interests, and to the transformational benefit of both our nations.— Mark Carney (@MarkJCarney)

Byron Donalds pushed back on NBC’s Kristen Welker after she cited the Fifth Amendment’s guarantee of due process for illegal aliens, arguing the massive number of border crossings under President Biden makes that position untenable.
