Day 102
Trump's great ally bids goodbye
Today’s Big Story…
Elon Musk received applause from Trump’s Cabinet in honor of his service with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), as he prepares to exit the cost-cutting agency.
“You have been treated unfairly," Trump said to Musk during a Cabinet meeting. "But, the vast majority of people in this country really respect and appreciate you. And this whole room can say that very strongly. It's really been a tremendous help. You opened up a lot of eyes as to what could be done. And we just want to thank you very much."
Musk, who has led DOGE since January, earned praise from Trump and administration leaders for targeting waste and mismanagement across federal agencies, trimming a total of $160 billion. Hired as a “special government employee”—a temporary role limited to 130 days—his term technically ends May 30. According to Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Musk is no longer working regularly from the White House.
Another Big Story…
President Trump marked his first 100 days in office with a White House event on “investing in America,” joined by corporate CEOs announcing new U.S. investments.
The “Investing in America” event highlighted planned investments in defense, tech, healthcare, and infrastructure. Trump promoted commitments from companies like Nvidia, GE Aerospace, Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly, and SoftBank. The event came as many U.S. firms remained cautious, though several pushed ahead with expanding domestic manufacturing and research.
My Thoughts…
Musk came in and did what he needed to do. While DOGE’s initial cost-cutting efforts are falling short of the original $2 trillion goal, kudos must be given to him and his team for accomplishing the $160 billion in cost savings. Now, the question becomes how the money saved will be utilized.

The Administration…
President Trump and his Cabinet met at the White House to review his first 100 days in office. Each member had a “Gulf of America” MAGA-style hat at their seat. Trump praised border security gains and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s leadership.
Transportation Secretary Duffy warned at Trump’s Cabinet meeting that states or cities must certify compliance with the law—no licenses for illegals or DEI policies—to receive infrastructure funding. Trump also criticized former Secretary Pete Buttigieg as incompetent.
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the Trump administration has seized over 22 million fentanyl-laced pills in its first 100 days.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced a major surge in military recruitment and said he's welcoming back service members removed under Biden’s COVID mandate.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick credited Trump’s tariffs for driving U.S. investment, noting tech companies have committed over $2.5 trillion.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that the Biden State Department kept dossiers on Americans labeled as “disinformation vectors,” including one on a current Trump official.
Rubio also announced the Trump administration secured the release of its 47th unjustly detained American in 100 days. Youras Ziankovich, accused of plotting a U.S.-backed coup in Belarus, was freed without a swap and taken to Lithuania by U.S. officials.
The U.S. and Ukraine have signed a long-awaited deal establishing the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund, granting the U.S. rights to Ukrainian rare earth minerals.
A U.S. flight carrying 131 Central Asian illegal aliens went to Uzbekistan under a new repatriation deal, with the Uzbek government covering costs, marking the first such agreement since Trump took office.
George Simion, leader of Romania’s AUR party and a Trump supporter, has emerged as the frontrunner in the May 4 presidential election, projected to win the first round with around 29% of the vote.
Vice President…
JD Vance cast a tie-breaking vote in the Senate last night, defeating a bipartisan resolution to block President Trump’s global tariffs. The vote split 49-49 after Senators Mitch McConnell and Sheldon Whitehouse, who supported the measure, were absent.
Congress…
The NRCC released an internal memo showing Republicans in a strong position for next year’s midterms, with Democrats leading the generic ballot by just 1 point—better than GOP standing at this point in 2017.
The Senate passed a resolution by freshman Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) to repeal Biden’s appliance energy standards, marking a key early win. Husted said it would cut red tape, restore consumer choice, and lower costs.
Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) honored the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein by introducing the 2025 “assault weapons” ban, aiming to prohibit the sale, manufacture, import, and transfer of military-style firearms. He claimed 486 mass shootings since 2006 involved such weapons but gave no sources.
Three House Democrats—Reps. Kweisi Mfume, Robin Kelly, and Jerry Nadler—asked to be removed as co-sponsors of an impeachment resolution against President Trump, signaling reluctance within the party to pursue removal efforts.
Sen. Lindsey Graham is moving forward with a bill to sanction Russia and impose tariffs on countries buying its oil, gas, and uranium. He told the Wall Street Journal the bill reached 60 co-sponsors and expects at least 67 by week’s end.
The Resistance…
Stocks fell yesterday after a report showed the U.S. economy shrank 0.3% in Q1 2025. The Dow dropped 0.8%, the S&P 500 fell 1.1%, and the Nasdaq slid 1.5%, per CNBC.

A federal judge in Florida said her order blocking enforcement of a new state immigration law applies to all local agencies, rejecting the state attorney general’s claim otherwise. Judge Kathleen Williams plans to issue a preliminary injunction against the law, which criminalizes illegal aliens entering Florida while evading immigration authorities.
A New Jersey federal judge ruled that anti-Israel activist Mahoud Khalil can sue the U.S. government, despite a prior Louisiana decision allowing his deportation.
A federal judge in Vermont ordered the release of Columbia student Mohsen Mahdawi, two weeks after his ICE arrest following a citizenship interview.
A joint investigation by ICE, USCIS, the State Department, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland led to federal charges against four people for visa and marriage fraud. Ten others were also arrested on April 24, and their immigration benefits have been revoked.

Two Ukrainian nationals, Svitlana Demydenko, 53, and her daughter Yelyzaveta, 22, have been charged by federal prosecutors for illegally voting in the 2024 presidential election in Palm Beach, Florida.
DNI Tulsi Gabbard stated during the Cabinet meeting that nearly 600 individuals linked to terror groups were granted asylum under the Biden administration.
A 2020 protective order against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the deported MS-13 suspect now held in El Salvador, reveals more of his violent history. Filed by his now-wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, the report accuses him of abuse, including kicking, slapping, shoving, child endangerment, and unlawful detainment.
Democrats erupted after President Trump joked about possibly becoming the next Pope.
