DAY 43. TODAY’S BIG STORY…

President Trump and Vice President Vance’s televised clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has sent Europe into a collective mood: panic.

Amid fears of diminishing U.S. support, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer released a statement pleading for U.S.-backing to continue despite the rift. At the same time, he committed to deploying British troops to Ukraine for peacekeeping efforts. This sparked EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to vow Europe would stand with Ukraine “for as long as it takes.” German Chancellor hopeful Friedrich Merz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk echoed this sentiment. Also commenting, French President Emmanuel Macron pushed for a European nuclear deterrent to reduce reliance on America. At the same time, he is forming a plan for a cease-fire in Ukraine that involves a one-month truce “in the air, on the seas and in energy infrastructures.”

Adding to Europe’s panic is a potential U.S. withdrawal from NATO.

AND HERE’S ANOTHER BIG STORY…

Norwegian fuel company Haltbakk Bunkers announced it would stop supplying fuel to U.S. military forces and ships in Norway. Citing dissatisfaction with new U.S. policy on Ukraine, the company condemned Trump’s spat with Zelenskyy as the “biggest shitshow ever presented live on TV,” according to the UK Defense Journal. Haltbakk Bunkers claimed Zelensky showed restraint and accused the U.S. of conducting a “backstabbing TV show.” The Norwegian company is now urging other European coastal nations to boycott servicing U.S. vessels.

MY OPINION…

There is no reason for the U.S. to be involved in the Ukraine battle against Russia. I do believe Trump should continue to work towards a peaceful resolutions, but there is no reason for us to fund the process. As or Europe, without the U.S. they are in trouble. Let them fund things for a while like we have, and watch how quickly each country decides to bail out. In the end, Trump wins big with the American people for as long as he remains adamant about wanting to push towards peace and focus on life in America.

Meanwhile, early this morning, word is out that Hungary, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, has blocked a draft European Union document aimed at providing security guarantees and new military aid to Ukraine. This decision follows after Orbán criticized other European leaders for continuing the war against Russia, advocating for peace negotiations instead.

THE ADMINISTRATION…

  • President Trump will address a Joint Session of Congress tomorrow night. While not officially a State of the Union, the speech follows the same format.

  • Trump announced the creation of a U.S. Crypto Reserve to strengthen the industry, citing past “corrupt attacks” under Biden. His order directs the Presidential Working Group to establish a Crypto Strategic Reserve including crypto coins XRP, SOL, and ADA.

  • Trump announced that southern border apprehensions hit a record low in February. While CBP has yet to release official data, Trump reported just 8,326 apprehensions, starkly contrasting the 189,913 in February 2023 and the record 301,981 in December 2023 under Biden. The previous low was 15,798 in April 2017 during Trump’s first term.

  • Defense Sec. Pete Hegseth ordered 3,000 active-duty troops to the southern U.S. border, including a Stryker-equipped motorized brigade. A helicopter battalion will also sent to bolster border security.

  • Hegseth ordered the DOD’s civilian workforce to comply with DOGE’s email by listing five accomplishments, reversing earlier instructions not to respond.

  • Hegseth has ordered U.S. Cyber Command to halt offensive operations against Russia, according to a current official and two former officials briefed on the secret instructions. The move is apparently part of a broader effort to draw President Putin into talks on Ukraine and a new relationship with the U.S.

  • The U.S. military carried out a precision airstrike in Northwest Syria, killing Muhammed Yusuf Ziya Talay, a senior leader of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hurras al-Din (HaD).

  • Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksiy Goncharenko signaled support for Trump by calling out the “absolute idiocy” of President Zelenskyy’s behavior during their Oval Office meeting. He lamented that Ukraine’s relationship with Trump ended after the heated exchange, accusing Zelenskyy of being “disrespectful” to the U.S. and its people.

  • Sec. of State Marco Rubio urged Zelenskyy to apologize to President Trump for their heated clash, questioning Zelenskyy’s commitment to peace.

  • Rubio has invoked “emergency authorities” to bypass Congress and send $4 billion in weapons to Israel, the second time in a month that the Trump administration has skirted the process of congressional approval for sending arms to the country. Israel was subject to another terror attack Monday morning.

  • HHS Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called the West Texas measles outbreak a “call to action,” urging parents to consider vaccination. He defended the MMR vaccine's efficacy while emphasizing it as a “personal” choice.

  • Trump has directed federal agencies to examine ways to bypass endangered species protections and other environmental regulations to ramp up timber production across 280 million acres of national forests and other public lands.

  • Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis hinted at a possible 2026 gubernatorial run. Rep. Bryon Donalds, endorsed by Trump, has already entered the race. When asked about the possibility, DeSantis responded with a Yogi Berra quote: “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”

VICE PRESIDENT…

JD Vance faced hundreds of pro-Ukraine protesters during a weekend visit to Vermont’s Sugarbush Resort following his White House clash with President Zelensky. Demonstrators in Waitsfield held signs calling him a “national disgrace” and “traitor,” with some urging him to “go ski in Russia.”

The Vance family was forced to abandon their stay at a four-star inn near the resort and relocated to an undisclosed location due to intense pro-Ukraine protests.

CONGRESS…

Sen. Lindsey Graham criticized Zelenskyy for rejecting his call to resign after Zelensky’s tense Oval Office meeting with Trump. On X, Graham argued that without elections, “no one has a voice” in Ukraine

House Republicans are pushing to block taxpayer-funded subsidies for wind and solar projects on agricultural land, citing potential costs in the hundreds of billions. Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Wis., is introducing the FARM Act to end federal funding for these projects while allowing private development to continue.

House Speaker Mike Johnson called Russian President Vladimir Putin “dangerous” and “not to be trusted” in a Sunday CNN interview. He described Putin as an “old-school communist” and linked Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea as a hostile “new axis” against the U.S.

Rep. Elise Stefanik’s confirmation as U.N. ambassador may be delayed until April due to the House’s slim GOP majority.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez urged resistance to President Trump’s deportation efforts of illegal aliens.

Former U.S. Rep. Mia Love’s family is cherishing their remaining time with her as her cancer no longer responds to treatment following her diagnosis of glioblastoma in 2022. Love made history in 2014 as the first Black Republican woman in Congress and Utah’s first Black representative.

Rather than boycott President Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress, some Democratic lawmakers are inviting former federal workers to the speech on Tuesday as a way to protest the mass firings and funding cuts that have defined Mr. Trump’s first month back in office.

THE RESISTANCE…

After his heated White House clash with Trump, Zelenskyy posted a defiant statement, expressing gratitude for U.S. support but demanding more aid and security guarantees. He affirmed readiness to sign the minerals deal but did not apologize for his confrontational behavior toward Trump and Vance.

An activist judge ruled that Hampton Dellinger must remain as head of the Office of Special Counsel, rejecting President Trump’s attempt to fire him. U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson deemed the dismissal unlawful, setting up a likely Supreme Court battle. Dellinger sued Trump last month after his firing, despite laws allowing presidential removal of special counsels.

The US is set to implement new tariffs on Chinese goods on March 4th, targeting imports from Canada, Mexico, and especially China. In response, China has announced it will retaliate by targeting US agricultural and food products, including potential tariffs and non-tariff measures, as reported by China's Global Times. This escalation in trade tensions could significantly impact American farmers and the broader economy.

Scottish police arrested 74-year-old Rose Docherty on for offering conversation to women considering abortion in a designated buffer zone near Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Her sign read, “Coercion is a crime, here to talk if you want.” The arrest comes days after Vice President JD Vance warned European leaders about rising censorship.

At the Oscars, Daryl Hannah voiced support for Ukraine, declaring “Slava Ukraini!” to applause while presenting the Achievement in Film Editing award. She reinforced her message with a peace sign on stage.

Conan O’Brien stayed mostly apolitical while hosting the Oscars, except for a subtle jab at Trump and Russia after Anora, a film about a prostitute marrying a Russian oligarch, won two awards. O’Brien joked: “Anora is having a good night. Two wins already. I guess Americans are excited to see somebody finally stand up to a powerful Russian.”

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu faced massive online backlash after offering “condolences” for a knife-wielding attacker shot by an off-duty officer at a Chick-fil-A in Boston. The suspect attempted to stab two people before being fatally shot.
